Amethyst: To whoever deleted this: How is this image NOT an example of this page? I'd like you to explain that. (Does the trope need at least two heinious things listed, before the last non-heinious thing is listed? Is that what you're driving at?)

Note: Much of the following discussion has been copied over from this trope's former name, "Bus Full Of Nuns"

Tanto: So, um, what's the relationship between the name and the trope? Am I missing a reference here?

The Title Bin is a good idea in theory, but it's beginning to annoy me how good names are being used for marginal tropes just to get the name out there.

Mister Six: Yeah, this is a bit too obscure...

Outsyder0486: Yeah, honestly, I think it's kinda obscure, but I'd always thought it should be a trope. It's obvious that this thing does happen.

Oh, and Tanto, the Bus Full Of Nuns thing is a reference to the Simpsons. It's one of the X-1 items on one of the lists. That was the closest reference that came to mind.

Fire Walk: What I noticed was that this...

In comedies, when a character on a lawn or sidewalk is engaged in activity that looks bad (regardless of the character's intentions), and a bus full of moral types (nuns, boy scouts, girl scouts, etc) rolls up and they stare aghast out the bus-windows.

...showed up in YKTTW, and it's perfect for "Bus Full Of Nuns", but I can't get any mental connection between this and the phrase.

Citizen: Alright then, I'm all for launching that to this if necessary and replacing the trope completely. Someone else do it. =P

Ununnilium: This should still be a trope, though, IMHO. Murder Arson Jaywalking?

Citizen: Meh~ Post the trope in YKTTW and see if we can come up with a better name than that. And I would say the order should be Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking.

Kilyle: I like Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking. Or similar. And definitely move — this title doesn't fit the concept without a horrible wrenching (and I was expecting the "bus full of nuns sees you doing horrible thing X" trope too).

Dr Dedman: Change it to, "and one moving violation." the Captain Stern bit is the most memorable example anyway.

Chuckg: Removed the 'real life' examples for California's three strikes law. One of them was debunked by Snopes (the pizza snatcher got 25 years, not life, and he'd 'stolen' the pizza by extorting it from a small child by implied threats of violence — and his sentence was later reduced to 6 years on appeal anyway), and I couldn't even find a reference to the 'life for stealing a pack of gum' allegation. Also, in real life, the law allows the judge the option of setting aside the 'three strikes' mandatory sentencing guidelines for minor property crimes such as shoplifting, which confirms the snopes accont of the pizza story and casts yet more doubt on the existence of the chewing gum urban legend.

KJMackley: The title is way too obscure, and barely even makes sense in context with The Simpsons. When I first read the title, I thought it was a reference to the Justice League episode when they were trapped in a 50's style comic book world, and just as the Flash was about to beat the enemy, a Bus Full Of Nuns lost control and was about to crash into a truck filled with TNT. The Flash wondered about the horrible timing, and made even more funny is all the nuns do the "cross your heart" as they are about to hit the truck. Arson Murderand Jaywalking sounds good enough for this trope, it at least makes enough sense when you read it arbitrarily.

Title is bad... I thought it was a reference to the line in Short Circuit "What if [#5] goes and melts down a bus load of nuns? How would you like to write the headline on that?" "Nun-soup?"

Batgirl1: I, too, keep getting this confused with the literal Bus Full Of Nuns in Justice Leage, especially as that somehow manages to come of as corny and cliche itself. I vote for renaming this trope as Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking, and retroping this name as the literal bus. :-p

Antheia: Wow, I don't think I've seen a single link to this page (well, the main page) in the sense of the trope described. It's always in the sense of 'somebody has been seen doing something horrible'.

In other words, I'm all for a name change.

Proginoskes: I too thought of Nun Soup. What's procedure on renaming?

Proginoskes: OK, Drastic and Decisive Action: I copy/pasted the entire contents of Bus Full Of Nuns into Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking and replaced it with the current message. It would have been easier and better with a move tool in the Wiki software, but that's something for the wish list. Time to snap pointers!

Duralict: I put together a short description on a whim just so there'd be a starting point. Then I googled "bus full of nuns drives by" and the first result was Passing Judgment, in which every example is a Bus Full Of Nuns in the sense described here and in YKTTW. So I copy/pasted all those examples over here. ...now I'm not sure what to do about Passing Judgment, though.

BeinSane: thank you ever so much for ruining my greatest I Thought It Meant ever. :P I say keep Passing Judgment and turn this into a redirect to...somewhere.

Meta Four: Make either Passing Judgment or Bus Full Of Nuns a redirect to the other.

Geoduck: As stated up at the top.. since Bus Full Of Nuns and AM&J both existed and were both being updated, I made an executive decision and moved/copied everything here, to the more descriptive title: main article, troper tales and this discussion. BFON now redirects to AM&J.

Bedinsis: I've now changed most "bus full'o nuns"-links to Arson Murder and Jaywalking-links. I hope it's appreciated.

Geoduck: It is. I did a few as well.

Rissa: Cut this, for all the reasons listed.

  • In this review of FATAL, Sartin suggests several things that could be done to the authors:
Sartin: Oh, I've suggested tons of things. Getting pissed on and set on fire, getting cancer and flesh-eating bacteria on the same day, being thrown into a vat full of fire ants, sliding down a greased razor blade, Deliverance 2 - damn, this is a violent review.
    • But... None of those are the odd item out. Or are you not familiar with Deliverance? Here's a hint: No such movie as "Deliverance 2" has ever been filmed, so he isn't suggesting they be made to watch it...
      • If it helps any, he never explicitly says anything about Deliverance outside this list, either, so there's another hint for you.
      • Note that he says 'suggested'. It's a reference to something he said earlier in the review, trying to encourage his co-reviewer not to quit writing halfway through.
It helps if you picture the people at FATAL Games becoming the squealing subject matter of Deliverance 2. It won't wipe the misogynistic taint from your mind, but it's just.

There's a bit in Fable 2 early on with a list of crimes being "Murder with a deadly weapon, murder with a potentially deadly weapon, and murder with a weapon-that-could-possibly-be-deadly-but-unfortunately-was" Would this count?

Tamfang: Not sure this fits. In The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, crazy brother-in-law Jimmy invites Reggie to join his secret campaign against: "Wreckers of law and order. Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, crypto-Trotskyists, union leaders, Communist union leaders, atheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby-pamby probation officers, rapists, papists, papist rapists, foreign surgeons - headshrinkers, who ought to be locked up, Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue-sniffers, Play For Today, Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, up everybody’s, Chinese restaurants - why do you think Windsor Castle is ringed with Chinese restaurants?"

Demetrios: How was I supposed to know Van Helsing said "Prague" and not "frog"? It's not my fault he was speaking with a thick accent.
Elihu: I don't get this...
  • On the Youtube Poop forums, somebody posted one of Stegblob (a well renowned pooper)'s videos. Stegblob responded with:
Stegblob: Fuck you, that's my only good video. Well, that and Robotnik Goes.
I'm deleting it in a day or so if doesn't have any viable explanation.

ffffff Maybe it is just a little vague, but it is "negative-to-positive", I suppose. Keep it deleted if you want. ~Some guy

JET 73 L: I'm wondering about all of the examples of "inversions" on this. The closest thing I've seen to an inversion was then Ghostlight example (moderate, bad, bad, which was the "burnt toast, suffering, death"), all of the others are "moderate, moderate, bad", which I would say belongs in Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick if anywhere. I didn't want to get rid of them based on just my opinion, though, I could easily be mistaken.
Isn't the Song of Fire and Ice example actually Values Dissonance , not Arson M&J ?
  • It's a bit of both, but I think that even if one was to adopt the view that a daughter is inferior to a son, a healthy daughter would likely be preferable to a defective or stillborn son.

Removing this, as it's a bit Nattery:
  • So... you were unaware that drug dealing is the single cause of the entire fall of the British Empire?
    • I was under the impression that World War II played a more significant part in its downfall.
    • Why has no-one decided to argue that serious drug dealers can ruin many more people's lives than the former two, as it is easier to sell drugs than rape or murder someone multiple times?

To address the last one: no, drug dealers don't ruin the lives of users any more than bars ruin the lives of drinkers. The vast majority of use is non-problematic, and the concept of The Aggressive Drug Dealer has very little basis in reality.
