I was simply passing by and there were people who were in trouble, so I helped them ‘a little’. Those people were happy, and I became happy as well. And then while I was helping them ‘a little’, we became close to each other and I made friends. And then people came to try and kill those friends and use dirty methods to take everything from them, so I helped them ‘a little’ once more. Is it really that strange?
Vandalieu, talking about his philosophy

Hiroto Amamiya is an Ordinary High-School Student, whose life could be described as unlucky, with his life being an endless string of misfortunes after the death of his parents. This all came to an end during an incident on a school boat trip in which he lost his life while trying to save a girl he barely knew. After dying Hiroto awoke to find himself and another hundred passengers of the boat, including the girl he had tried to save, along with a god of soul transmigration, Rodcorte, who offered them the opportunity to be reincarnated in another world known as Origin.

Unfortunately, for Hiroto, his second life is even worse than the previous, with him being used as a guinea pig and put through inhumane experiments, before finally encountering his end at the hands of the other reincarnated passengers. Appearing once more before Rodcorte, he learns that both he and his killers are meant to be reincarnated again. However, to prevent him from taking revenge, Rodcorte curses Hiroto before sending him off, hoping that he will commit suicide or die quickly.

This work provides examples of:

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: After living with the ghouls for a while, Van is selected as their king, who will lead them into the battle with the orcs and take them to the other side of the Boundary Mountain Range for a safer place to live. This continues on with him becoming the king of Talosheim and eventually the emperor of the Vidal Demon Empire.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Schneider may be a walking example of this, with him having no idea (or admiting) how he acquired his ageless body or how he gained his unique skill.
    • Vandalieu have no idea why or how Spirit Silver and Life Gold works the way it does, even if it may be related to something as important as the base form of life and the base form of spirit.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Gufadgarn takes the form of a teenage elf, both for his misconception of what Zakkart wanted and so he can follow Van out in the open.
    • Jurizanapipe, the Evil God of Degeneration and Intoxication, takes the form of the female elf Lissana after reincarnating.
  • The Ageless: Vampires and Majins stop aging after a certain age, with some of those still alive even being old enough to having fought during the war against the Demon King Guduranis.
    • Schneider became one, somehow, the most prevalent theory being that he bathed in the blood of so many Elder Dragons that he acquired their immense vitality during his mid-twenties. Not that he will ever admit it, with him claiming he is just a really healthy old man with greying (actually platinum blonde) hair.
  • Adults Are Useless: At least for Vandalieu during his first and second life, getting worse and worse as he continued. Darcia being the very first adult (or anyone) that showed him any kind of love is the reason he cares so much about her.
  • Accidental Proposal: Has happened no less than three times to Van due to cultural differences. While he still accepts the engagements, he starts asking if certain gestures have this kind of significance every time he meets a new race.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Most of the antagonists are given considerable screen time and a large number are shown to have well meaning motivations, tragic pasts, unfulfilled dreams, and so on.
  • Alien Geometries: Gufadgarn is a living example of this, being apparently an arachnid looking thing made of kaleidoscopic, crystalline shapes. Zakkart just gave up in trying to describe him, asking him to take a form that was not a headache to look at.
  • Alien Lunch: The 'stew' Banda gives Hiroshi is actually made of Demon King Fragments he generated from his own body, but made to look like coral and algae. Apparently, it tastes good.
  • All Myths Are True: Played with.
    • All the gods and monsters of legend on Lambda are actual beings that can and do still involve themselves in the matters of mortals.
    • Inverted with the gods of Earth and Origin, who are actually just amalgams of all the myths people on that planet believe in in some way. And the urban legends and fictional characters too. This stops them from producing miracles or otherwise intervening in people's lives like the gods of Lambda, as their various aspects are constantly fighting within themselves over what to do. Even a copy of Pluto is able to become an aspect of the God of Origin, simply from the veneration Pluto obtained from the people saved by the Eighth Guidance.
    • Similarly inverted with most of the species of Lambda's names. The status system was based on fantasy video games the gods of space and time had observed on Earth, and thus uses the Fantasy Kitchen Sink often seen in them to assign names and skills to the various species of Lambda, rather than those races being the ones from Earth's mythology.
  • All That Glitters: Invoked, during his stay in Talosheim casino, Vandalieu stays in the VIP area playing around with coin made out of fool's gold, 1) because he couldn't win anything and 2) because it made his feel rich and luxurious.
  • All There in the Manual: At the end of every volume there are encyclopedic entries about the history, inhabitants, terms, skill, jobs and titles in Lambda.
  • Alternate Timeline: Lambda's 7 champions of legend apparently didn't come from the Earth Van and the reincarnators hail from but from, but a world referred to as EARTH that appears to have a functionally identical history (including the same Fantasy Kitchen Sink, countries, companies, etc.) save for the existence of Vandalieu, whose soul made out of 4 of the champions from the future was inserted into his version of Earth 100,000 years in their past.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Regularly Subverted.
    • The Demon King Guduranis' army are initially portrayed as nothing but monsters and invaders by the Alda faction. Except that most of them aren't, as the majority of the gods were forced to join the Demon King as a slave army, and some even join Vida's camp after Zakkart convinced them to defect. Even their title, the "Evil Gods", is just a subjective label placed on them by the residents of Lambda rather than anything inherent to them as a whole.
    • Most monsters, as they were created by the Evil Gods to be mindless killing machines to serve as their main forces and believers, seem only to be able to kill and pillage at first. However, all of them can evolve to think for themselves and become wiser than before, and Vandalieu further demonstrates that even low intelligence / highly xenophobic low ranked species like undead, goblins and kobolds can be magically elevated to be fully sentient and capable of co-existing with other races.
    • Vida's races are similarly believed to be this by Alda's adherents. Emphasis in 'believe', as all of them had human level sentience and often required symbiotic relationships with existing species from the start.
  • Amazon Chaser / Women Prefer Strong Men: While by no means an absolute, Vida's races in general like those of great strength. Justified since they normally live in really dangerous territories, so physical and mental strength is necessary to survive.
  • Animated Armor: Saria and Rita are an early example of this. Funnily enough, it is Chainmail Bikini, something their father initially was happy about (since now that they have bodies they can help Van), that is, until they properly materialized their body under the armor.
  • And I Must Scream: Vandalieu goes through this for 10+ years after his mind is disconnected from his body by the researchers in Origin.
  • Anti-Magic: One of the reasons orichalcum is so coveted. Famously, it is the only metal able to pierce through the Demon King's barriers. It's not perfect against magic, though. Orichalcum can be used as a golem material, and reshaping the metal requires only a godly supply of mana. Even so, its hardness and magic resistance is incredible.
  • Apocalypse How: The Demon King War provoked a Class 2 borderlining into Class 3, and after the war between Alda and Vida only 3000 humans, elves and dwarves remained. Of course, this does not include all the survivors of the Vida's races inside the Boundary Mountain Range.
  • Arranged Marriage: While pretty common in story, it is explicitly stated that Vida doesn't approve of them if it is purely for political reason, with one of the few rules her church have being that it may only be done between two people in love.
  • Artificial Limbs: They are created via alchemy but are so expensive that no common adventurer or soldier (who are the most likely o loss a limb) can't afford to buy and maintain one, and even if they could, the limb is not responsive or tough enough to actually be of any help during a battle.
    • During his stay in Moksi, Vandalieu give two adventurer replacement limbs made with death iron and teached (read:forced) them how to manifest their souls and make it possess the metal limb, effectivelly making it another part of their bodies.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Several different examples.
    • Kanata Kaidou's [Gungnir] skill can be applied this way by designating the thing he wants to pierce (which can be anything from a type of material, object or even magic), the affected object becomes intangible whenever it encounters him, allowing him to pass through armor, walls and other defenses. However, if he wants to use a weapon, he can't declare weapon as a target as whatever weapon he wields will just phase through his hands. However it won't work on certain things, like ghosts, as picking them would cause his own spirit and soul to phase through out of his body and instantly kill him.
    • Hiroto's [Ignore Defense] skill lets him, well, ignore all the defenses of anything he attacks. This, of course, includes himself, his allies and any structure he may be inside of, so he tries not to use it underground, or with attacks that cover too much area. It is also mentioned that it may not be as effective on Lambda, due to the existence of Vitality that's entirely separate defense, and thus makes it easy to survive what would be a One-Hit Kill.
  • Artistic License – Physics: Justified. It is explained many times that while physics of similar world are just as similar, it is still different enough for things to work in world to malfunction, explode or just not work. In a world like Lambda even more so with the inclusion of magic and the Status System.
  • Badass Boast: Vandalieu gives a minor one during the Trial of Zakkart arc:
    Mirror Vandalieu: “What is death?”
Vandalieu: “It’s the change from the living to the dead. It is considered to be irreversible. It’s a phenomenon that I rule over, and one that I should overturn. In other words, I’ll do what I want with it.”
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Vandalieu and his death attribute magic. Although such powers are easy to abuse for evil ends like creating undead slave armies or spreading deadly poisons or diseases, Van tends to use it for altruistic purposes like food preservation, killing harmful pathogens, medical treatment, or elevating mindless undead back into fully sentient people.
  • Barrier Maiden: The gods, vampires and majins in Vida's side are constantly feeding the barrier on the Boundary Mountain Range with their magic power, with the vampires and majin in particular transforming themselves into statues until the time to fight comes again.
  • Benevolent Mage Ruler: As Ghoul King and later as the Eclipse King of Talosheim, Vandalieu is this, using his magic and abilities to improve the quality of life of his subjects.
  • Berserk Button: Getting labelled a princess in some way by the Class and Level System begins to become a major source of trauma for Van's various allies, as many of them don't think it matches with their age or otherwise feel as though it's the system mocking them.
    • Badmouthing Darcia have been noted several times to be tone of the worst things you can do in Vandalieu's presence. Likewise Darciam is prone to get mad when people try to harm Vandaliu.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Pete, the centipede, continues to get bigger as the story goes on, being big enough to easily coil around a two floor house. And shoot lightning. And inject poison.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: As Evil Gods are alien gods from a world not even close to our own, they tend to have unearthly and/or hard to understand forms, from multi-headed dragons to wiggling masses of tentacles. Demon King Guduranis may be the weirdest of all, as after he was ripped into Ludicrous Gibs at the end of the Demon King War, the still living pieces of his body began mutating into various random organs of whatever creatures happened to be in the environment around them!
    • Van's Soul also applies as even other Evil Gods have a hard time looking at his Soul because of how warped it is, especially after having convinced several parts of the former Demon King that he is the main body which has affected ALL parts he has yet to find into seeking him out.
  • Black Magic: The Death-attribute magic in Origin and Lambda. Also, the magic that many evil gods use, which are known to include homunculus creation and poisonous fire, among others.
  • Blank White Void: This is how the gods' 'Divine Space' normally looks like, with the gods in question being the only being visible.
    • Banda, in an effort to look less threatening to Hiroshi, makes his look like a coral-reef-like location. Then he mentions that he did it by pulling out Demon King's Fragments from his body and making them look like coral and algae.
  • Blood Knight: Phitum, the God of Thunderclouds. The only thing he wants after years of peace is to fight someone capable of killing him, not because he want to die, but because it makes the fight more insteresting.
  • Body Horror: The ultimate fate of those possesed by the Demon King Fragments, becoming a giant, twisted representation of whatever Fragment possesed them. The only exception is Van who somehow convinced the animalistic instinct inside the Fragments that they were actually part of him.
  • Born Lucky: The Bravers were given immense luck by Rodcorte before they were reborn. This let them survive against all kinds of mortal situations and unsurmountable odds. Special mention goes to Hiroto, who also received the luck meant to be for Van. It is strong enough to overpower the other Bravers own luck, making it so The Eighth Guidance members couldn't be so easily killed since he wanted to capture them alive if possible.
    • This luck starts to fail them if they go against one another, since their luck essentially cancels out, or anyone outside Rodcorte's reincarnation system (like Van in his third life). This makes them have to depend in their own strength and decision-making skills. Murakami's group takes advantage of this to try and kill them.
  • Born Unlucky: In contrast to above, Van just don't seem to get a rest. It's first assumed that it was because Rodcorte gave his luck to someone else, only for it to later turn out that his past lives were just as unlucky, and in fact his death attribute tainted soul has been cancelling out any low level blessing from a god, including things like "good fortune". Even on Lambda, he notes that his luck is terrible, mostly working hard (or abusing the 'Danger Sense: Death' spell) to avoid any really dangerous situation.
  • Burn the Witch!: Darcia was killed like this by Alda's church's priests, under the charges of having a child with a vampire, leaving behind only a small fragment of a bone which Vandalieu use as a container for her soul.
  • Came Back Strong: Combined with Came Back Wrong. After being tortured for more than ten years, Van (as D-01) is accidentaly killed, giving him the opportunity to recover the control over his body by becoming an undead, and proceeded to murder everyone in the facility, only being stopped because he though that the Bravers were there to rescue him instead of killing him.
  • Charm Person: Comes in the form of the [Allure] skills possesed commonly by woman-like monsters and provided by some Jobs that emphasize the beauty of the holder. Of course, since the skill works with the beauty of the holder as a base it is not all powerfull and can be resisted, though it still make the holder seem more pleasant.
    • On the other hand, Charm-type skills work more akin to a light brainwashing, making the affected think of the user from a very friendly person to an object of worship depending of the level. Van's specifically affect those related to death (in a very loose sense of the word).
    • Tsuchiya Kanako's [Venus] skill works by making her extremely likable to others, affecting even those who hear or see recordings of her, though she admits it does not work as well with reincarnators or those with minds too different from hers. This is a lie she told the other reincarnators to hide her real memory altering skill in case she had to fight against them.
    • [Guidance] and [Path Enticement] type skills make it so the user appear more appealing and make it easier to guide those likely minded into following them. It is also possible to convince other to think in simmilar ways to the holder, effectively making them be affected by the skill as well.
    • It is noted that, even before being summoned to Lambda, Bellwood is a really charismatic natural leader, who always acted as the leader of any group he joined. It is also noted that most of the time he leaded with empty words and promises, always telling people just what they wanted to hear to make them accomplish his own goals, rarely if never actually hearing others opinions or actually let them voice them, with the last one being one of the main reasons Zakkart, Arc, Solder and Hillwillow left to work on their own.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: No matter how minor the conversation or how little is the character mentioned during it, they will eventually appear in the story.
  • Clone by Conversion: The unfortunate end of Shihouin "Metamorph" Mari at the hand of Akira, using drugs and magic to modify her mind into acting and thinking like him and using a magic item to alter her appearance to act as his double while he is investigating Death Attribute magic. After a brief (mind only) return to Origin, Vandalieu left behind a Spirit Clone of himself to help Mari get over the brainwashing.
  • Composite Character: Early on, Vida reveals that Van is a literal case of this, his soul was born from the combined fragments of the creation minded champions' souls (Hillwillow, Solder, Ark and Zakkart). It is said later on that because of the state of the souls, he should not have the same kind of personality, yet somehow ended up having many similarities with them.
  • Convection Schmonvection: Averted, one of the main reasons the Dark Continent is considered unhabitable is because of the extreme climates that exist next to each other.
  • Creepy Child: After being reincarnated in Lambda, Vandalieu notices he has become unable to express any form of emotion, no matter how he feels he will always have a deadpan face and speak in a flat tone.
    • Added to that, his appearance is described as ghostly, with many people even believing he is a ghost or statue until he talks to them. It is implied that this is related to one of his death-attribute spells that 'kills' his presence, so this is likely due to a subconscious leak of death attribute mana.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: You can almost always expect Vandalieu to give these to his opponents.
    • Vandalieu and Borkus against Sercrent and his subordinates, with Borkus killing all of Sercrents mooks and Vandalieu breaking Sercrent's soul.
    • Kanata Kaidou only manages to graze Vandalieu before being completely overpowered and having his soul destroyed.
    • The expedition to Talosheim led by the Mirg shield-nation, all 6000 soldiers of the expeditionary force are killed while Talosheim suffers no losses.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Due to the goddess of love and life making multiple species with various monstrous evil gods, there's an abundance of these on Lambda, including harpies, lamias, female demons and Onis, and other Adorable Abominations. Vandalieu also starts creating quite a few by modifying species of pure monsters, such as a half-noble orc, half-minotaurs and evolved giant bees that all appear as cute girls with a some additional animal / insect parts. Gufadgarn also incarnates itself into a homunculus that looks like an adorable little elf girl due to misunderstanding some of Zakkart's previous comments back during the Demon King War.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite wielding magic to raise undead and other things that look morally questionable at best, Vandalieu is one of the most benevolent characters in the world of Lambda.
  • Deader Than Dead: A number of unique individuals have the ability to destroy others souls, which basically stops the target from ever being resurrected or reincarnated again.
    • This is the reason Demon King Guduranis was so dangerous, as even gods had to fear being permanently killed rather than just put out of comission by him.
    • Van, who first gained the ability to break and then consume the souls of others, is unknowingly doing this to Demon King Guduranis, as Vida notice that whenever Van assimilates a Demon King's Fragment, it becomes part of Demon King Vandalieu instead of Demon King Guduranis, which will eventually make a complete revival in his own body impossible for Guduranis.
  • Defector from Decadence: The main reason Murakami's group decide to abandon the Bravers, as besides having been effectively forced to join, they didn't like the whole 'heroes without benefits' part.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: During th fight against Bugogan, Vandalieu let himself be cutted almost in half by him so that he could splash him with his soon to be poisoned blood. The others were not too happy about him doing that.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Between a hundred thousand years of Medieval Stasis, the many different races, just as many ways of life and religious inclinations it is expected to have diferent valus between cities.
  • Demonic Possession: Unbeknownst to Edgar he is being slowly being possesed by the Demon King's soul fragment Rodcorte used to heal his soul.
  • Divine Parentage: While humans, elves, and dwarfs are stated to have been created by the gods, Vida's races have been explicitly stated to have been birthed by, well, Vida and (often) evil gods.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": After all the time he has been on Lambda, Vandalieu doesn't like being called Amemiya Hiroto, as he died more than 20 years ago on Earth (as he had no name on Origin).
  • Dragons Are Divine: The Dragon God Marduke and his descendants are considered mortal gods rather than beasts. Quite a few of the Evil Gods were also classified as dragons due to looking somewhat similar, despite having no inherent relation to them.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Many people who encounter Van in the early arcs assume he's a little girl due to his high pitched voice and doll-like looks, much to his own disappointment with him wanting to look like a big and manly 'hollywood actor' and all. He eventually grows out of it as he grows up, especially once he reaches puberty.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Many of the Evil Gods and some of the monsters on Lambda are depicted as having biologies utterly outside any standard understanding.
    • Merrebeveil, Evil God of Slime and Tentacles, is nothing but thousands upon thousands of writhing tentacles stuck together in the shape of something vaguely resembling a woman.
    • Vandalieu's soul is also depicted as outside normal understanding, a misshapen mess of eyes, mouths and limbs stuck together in a shape that vaguely resembles a human, with an increasing number of random organs from all manner of parts of the body and even other species (like blood clots, bones, fallopian tubes, horns, antenna, and so on) sticking out of it as he absorbs more demon king fragments. It's unclear how it even functions at all, let alone how Van manages to be even close to a well adjusted person.
    • Banda, as a Spirit Clone of Vandalieu, look like a very tall man wearing a fur coat and a white mask with a giant grin on it. Except neither is a fur coat (it is the fur of his body) nor it is a mask, and as one take a closer look, they notice that his limbs are made of coiled tentacles and have 6 eyes in his face. He is a pretty nice guy as long as you don't bring harm to Mei.
  • Elective Monarchy: The aptly named Orbaume Electoral Kingdom decide the next king by popular vote taken by the current duke of each duchy, with the voted king's reign lasting 10 years and can be re-elected only once more for an extra 10 years by a second voting.
  • Evil Uncle: One of the major reasons Van's first life was so bad. He is described by Van as being 'allergic to luxury' as he often denied even basic necessities to Van since they were 'too luxurious for someone like him' and that he 'needed to learn about humility'. He prohibited things like: meals that weren't cheap (God forbid the food said 'Deluxe' in the name or packaging), toys, TV (unless it was for documentaries and even then, he changed his opinion all the time), traveling, clothes, etc. Of course, such rules didn't apply for him and his family.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Bone Man is, well, a man made of bones. For that matter, the bone beasts were named Bone 'respective animal' before becoming Knochen, which simply means 'bones'.
  • Fake Memories: The real way the [Venus] skill works, it allows Kanako to modify and/or create memories, making it possible for her to use different feelings and making them correspond to memories of herself so she looks more aluring or scarier to the target. In one particular ocassion she made Narumi remember her as an ally and help her even when they were currently trying to arrest her.
  • Fantastic Racism: Most of the races created by the Goddess Vida, like Dark Elves, Giants, Lamias, Vampires and Ghouls, are object of this by some of the people who worship Alda. This holds especially true for those that are somewhat monstrous.
  • Fantasy Metals: Mythril and adamantite which form naturally in zones with a high concentration of mana over hundreds of years, damascus steel and black steel which are alloy metals made of mithril and adamantite; and orichalcum which can only be made and processed by the gods.
    • Van can create magic metals by exposing normal metals to his death attribute mana, shortening the hundreds of years needed for the transformation by aging them with a spell. This results in dark copper, death iron, spirit silver and life gold.
  • Fantasy Pantheon: The Eleven Founding Gods: Vida, the goddess of life and love, Alda, the god of light and law, Zantark, the war-god of fire and destruction, Peria, the goddess of water and knowledge, Shizarion, the god of wind and art, Botin, mother of the earth and goddess of craftsmanship, Ricklent, the genie of time and magic, Zuruwarn, the god of space and creation, Marduke, dragon-emperor god, Zerno, the giant god and Ganpaplio, the beast-god.
    • There is also the great black god, Diachmell and the great white god, Arazan. These gods are said to have been fighting for unknown reasons until they stroke each other and died, from their empty shells the Eleven Founding Gods were born.
  • First Of Its Kind: After being resurrected, Darcia becomes the originator of the Chaos Elves. Her race is Chaos Elf Source as she can convert others into chaos elves.
    • Many are introduced as the series goes on, mainly being Vandalieu's and Luciliano's fault.
  • For Science!: Ultimately the whole reason Van was experimented on so much in his second life on Origin, as the scientists had no real reason to think that making him suffer would enhance his control over death magic. Of course, this ended in their demise.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Rapiéçage, made with the head of a amazon-like woman, the body of a elf woman, a ogre's limbs, a Pteranodon's wings, a snake's tail tipped with a Cemetery bee's stinger (including many types of poison glands for good measure) and a Tri-horn's horns molded into her skeleton. And she is also a zombie.
  • Freaky Is Cool: Borderline Nightmare Fetishist. Be it giant carnivorous bees, women with the lower halves made of tentacles or a giant spider bodies, or just about anything else, Van always finds the various monster and half-monster races cool or beautiful. It helps that many of them are incredibly powerful women.
  • Four Is Death: As the eponimous death mage in the title, Vandalieu does not want to reincarnate a fourth time as it will mean the end of his life as both Amemiya Hiroto and Vandalieu, since Rodcorte will erase any memory he had and leave his souls in a Blank Slate state like every other souls prior to reincarnation.
    • Vandalieu brake a soul for the first time after becoming four years old.
    • Curiously, Vandalieu's, the only know death attribute mage, soul is made of the fragments of four Champions souls.
  • Genius Loci: Knochen becomes a living fortress as a natural result of ranking up into a Bone Fort, and gradually grows to colossal sizes.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: The power of all gods depends on the number of people who some type of belief or reverence in them or some concept, system or item they claim domain over.
    • Many of the gods of Lambda all generally gain power through the people directly worshiping them.
    • While Rodcorte has no need of believers himself, he is dependent on souls passing through the transmigration systems he has created to maintain his existence.
    • Many Evil Gods initially rose to power through the fear they invoked through their monsters, dungeons and so on.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Rodcorte wanted to place reincarnated individuals on Lambda to increase the level of civilization on the planet, thus creating more humans who would increase the amount of reincarnation around them through industrialized farming and war, larger populations for currently wayward souls to incarnate into, and so on. Van immediately begins doing exactly that once he reaches Lambda, but for Vida's competing reincarnation circle rather than Rodcorte's own.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: Vampires are well known for this, with the best known way to deal with them is destroying their heart and/or head if you don't count with ways to negate their regeneration skill. Pure-breed vampires even more so as their regeneration and high vitality combined make them extremelly dangerous, Ternecia is even able to survive having her head being literally blown off her body and still regenerating most of her spine in a couple of seconds.
  • Grey and Gray Morality: One of the story's main themes is how every conflict ammounts to this, be it the Amid Empire's suppresion of Vida's races to bring unity by a 'us against them' stand, Vandalieu's pursuit of happyness via abnormal means, Alda's wish for the world to not change or even Rodcotre's apathetic way of managing the reincarnation system.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: During the fight against Fitun, Doug start fighting using Vandalieu's dismembered arm as a flail with the help of his [Hekatonkheires] skill. After the fight, he planned to process it into a proper weapon as it end up being really useful.
  • Guns Are Inefficient: Justified. Aside from being hard to manufacture in Lamdba where the necessary technology don't exist and the necessary formulas to make them actually work, with beings in Lambda being as strong and hard to kill as they are due to Vitality, ammunition that can actually cause noticeable becomes hard to come by since magic metals becomes necessary and it is more efficient to use it to make swords and other melee weapons with which one can use Skills.
    • Vandalieu circumvent this by making guns barrels and bullets using Demon King Fragments and propeling them using telekinesis.
  • Heroic Albino / Evil Albino: With Vandalieu being how he is it's up to anyone to decide which one he is. Curiously, his albinism is brought up as it is weird for him to not inherit the dark skin of the dark elves from his mother's side as it would normally with other damphirs as, with the exception of their single red eye, they take up the racial traits from the not vampire parent.
  • Hero of Another Story: Heinz in the pacifist faction of Alda's religion side and Amemiya Hiroto as the leader of the Bravers on Origin's side.
  • Heroic Lineage: The royal family of the Amid Empire are said to be direct descendants of Champion Bellwood. Marshukzarl is sure is a complete lie, used to maintain his family in the throne, though.
  • Hero Worship: Due to his adoration for muscles, this is the way Van acts towards Zorcodrio.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: Sieg, Zodcordio's adopted son is actually the child of Marshukzarl, who erased any memory of himself from the mother's mind to ensure his son lived in case he was assassinated by the new pope of Alda's Church, manipulating the scenario enough for her to meet Zodcordio, who he was sure would protect her and the child. What neither of them know is that he is also a reincarnator, 'Skanda' Tanaka Jin
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Combined with Nice Job Fixing It, Villain! in Rodcorte's case, if he had at least done anything to help Van's situation, be it pre or post reincarnation, he would not be as screwed as he is right now. And even then, his overall amorality and a lazily done job in properly taking care of the creation minded champions' soul fragment is what brought about Van's soul to be and his later acquisition of death attribute magic.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Between amorality toward pretty much everything and overconfidense, Rodcorte is not someone you would call all that bright when it comes to choose 'good' people.
    • It is suggested that Alda, while much better than Rodcorte, also comes short when it comes to judge the true character of others.
  • Horror Hunger: Discussed and Downplayed, while those with 'Bloodsucking' type skills do have a thirst for blood, exponentially incresing the more they level it up, they can just drink blood from any source, not necessarily from sentient race, ultimatelly being up to personal preferences. Given examples are Vandalieu drinking blood from the monsters he hunt (since he have no preferences) or Vampire Zombies eating blood drenched meat (since is convenient).
    • Zombies don't have to eat the flesh of their original race, it have more to do with an undead's innate hatred against the living than personal taste. Not that they don't find it a viable food option mind you.
    • Like above, Ghouls don't eat humans because they like it, but because of the dangerously lacking amount of food they can safely find inside Devil's Nests they see it as a waste to not make complete use of someone they already killed and ultimately see it as less wasteful than humans who just take bit or pieces when they "hunt for materials".
    • Melissa ask Vandalieu how do souls taste like suspecting he may take a liking to them. After a lenghty explanation he concludes with that if he ever do take a liking to eating souls, they have to kill him as fast as possible.
  • Hypocrite: Its been shown time and again that Bellwood hardly followed what he himself preached, sometimes even going against his words as if he didn't even recognized saying it before or even admiting he was wrong.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: To the point of being a Running Gag concerning Van, starting with the time he ate an Evil God and drunk the Demon King's Blood completely by accident.
  • Identical Stranger: Amamiya Hiroto and Amemiya Hiroto, two extremely similar looking boys with almost identical names who ended up in the same touring boat. After The Reveal that Amamiya / Van was a soul that Rodcorte had been trying to keep off Lambda for 100,000 years, it also seems Van having a random "twin" like Amemiya around him that just so happened to stop Rodcorte from examining Van too closely is not entirely coincidental.
  • Insect Queen: Quinn, the queen of the Gehenna Bees, while not the biggest of them, she is definitely the strongest.
  • Instant Awesome, Just Add Ninja: Goblins and titans ninjas that is!
  • Interspecies Romance: Surprisingly more common that one would think, with the only exception being between elves and dwarfs and that is only because they can't have children between themselves.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Many Ghoul communities eat even members of sentient races they kill, including humans, though they do this to not be wasteful in an area where food is always limited, not because they actually prefer humans over other foods. Zadiris even points out that since they eat all the meat, they are less wasteful than humans that only take the 'materials' from them.
  • Immune to Mind Control: One of the side effects of the [Mental Corruption] skill, which is commonly obtained by those deeply traumatized, work in less than savory jobs and sometimes artists.
  • Intangibility: Kanata's [Gungnir] skill gives him the ability to phase through any object or material he designates. He can use it defensively to avoid attacks, become transparent by making light phase through him (although he becomes blind while doing so), or offensively to make is so Armor Is Useless.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Kanata tries to do this after Vandalieu dodges his surprise attack, too bad he couldn't hide his own desire to kill him, otherwise Vandalieu may have even killed him painlessly.
  • Jerkass Gods: Played With. While there are gods that are jerkasses, Rodcorte in particular is understandably utilitarian, but extremely egocentric and almost devoid of empathy. He doesn't care much about anything that has nothing to do with his cycle of soul transmigration systems. Merrevebeil comments that a god going against their nature can be literally self-destructive, as if they do they may end up dying and reincarnating as a completely different kind of god without their past memories and personalities, just like it almost happened to her.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler:It's really hard to talk about the series without talking about Talosheim, Van being the king/emperor, and what happened during and after the Demon King War.
    • For that matter, what occurred in the first 1/4 of the first volume, as a great part of the story revolves around Van planning to revive Darcia.
  • Large Ham: Valkyrie pretty much all the time, often speaking in a loud and exagerated manner, proclaiming how her "Brave Warriors" (zombies) will bring victory. The military uniform and flag help too.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Van, Pauvina, Rapiéçage and Yamata, with Darcia treating the girls (and Legion) as her own daughters and presenting them as such.
    • Kanako tries to do this by calling Van "big bro" after becoming a Chaos Elf, only for him to stop her as is weird for him that a former classmate and someone of the same age call him that. Darcia still treat her as her daughter though.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Beast people normally have visible traits of the Beast God they are descendant from, by it ears, horns or claws and tails. Noticeably there is not beast poeple for porcines, bobines and arthropods.
  • Living Bodysuit: Used in a truly gruesome manner. Raymond Paris' insides were gouged out, leaving only what he needed to survive (for a short while). Van then climbed inside him, curling up in fetal position until he burst out of his chest Alien-style in order to catch Gubamon by surprise.
  • Living Lie Detector: Shimada Izumi's [Inspector] skill take it to the extreme by letting her know wether or not what she hear or see is the truth, making it so lie or illusion don't work on her. This led her grow really distrutful of people (since they always lied to her) and dissapointed of the magic shows she liked (because she could see thru the illusions used). Kanako discovered that one could still lie to her by simply not telling her the whole truth, in her case, by just telling her that she 'made people like her more' with Venus. Not knowing it is a lie you are telling works too.
  • Living Statue: The vast majority of Talosheim's "decorations". From statues encrusted in the outer walls (as emergency soldiers) to small eyes and birds carved in the inner structures (as security cameras) and the moving dinosaur bones inside the castle (which Van likes). The only exception seems to be the statues of the gods and the many statues showing Van's growth, probably out of respect.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters: To start, there is 100 reincarnators, beside the main character, who are introduced into the story little by little and about 10 new characters are introduced every arc.
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Most of the Demon King's fragments can be manifested (in disturbing ways) by a suitable host. While unique and useful, hosts must be careful not to use Demon King fragments too frequently, lest they be taken over by a fragment from the inside.
  • Magitek: The world of Origin is a world were technological and magical advancements came hand in hand, with things like magically operated cars and glove sized 'staves' being pretty common. There are even sports were magic plays a big part.
    • The Creation Oriented Champions, Zakkart, Hillwillow, Arc and Solder, were famous for being able to reproduce "EARTH"'s technology using both the knowlegde gained during their time in Lambda and the magic they developed. This led to them eventually trying to make a nuke to kill the Demon King, much to the opposition of Bellwood.
  • Mad Scientist: Luciliano already showed shades of this during his first appearance and starts getting worse after becoming Van's disciple Also, the scientists on Origin were less ethical examples.
Luciliano (Paraphrased): I'm not stupid! Call me mad or crazy!
  • Meaningful Name: Vandalieu's (Vandaru) is a portmanteau of his parents, Valen's (Varen) and Darcia's (Darusia), names, as it seen as a symbol of their love by Darcia.
    • The Eighth Guidance's members gave themselves names themed around beings tied to their death attribute magic powers, i.e. Pluto (the god) the king of the underworld and Pluto (the character) the leader of the Eighth Guidance, able to increase or decrease 'death' in herself and others.
    • Hiroto Amemiya's children, Hiroshi and Mei, are named after Vandalieu's original name (the first kanji of Hiroto can be read as Hiroshi) and Pluto (it can be written as mei-ou (dark/death king) in japanese), respectively. Becomes even more meaningful as Mei is the second natural user of the Death Attribute.
    • Legion is named after the demon of the same name as they are the amalgamation of The Eighth Guidance members. And Gazer.
    • Rapiéçage (stitching) was named that as she is was made by stitching body parts together.
    • Vida's name means 'life' in spanish, appropriately enough, she is the goddess of life and love.
  • Momma's Boy: And Vandalieu admits it pretty openly to anyone who ask. This is abussed later by Curatos, the God of Records, using a reproduction of Darcia as a shield.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Male ghouls naturally evolve into four armed Ghoul Tyrants. Vigaro goes beyond that and learn to manifest a fifth arm using "Spirit Form" and "Materialization".
  • Mundane Utility: Expect Vandalieu and Tarea to find the most mundane use for the Demon King Fragments, from combs and clothing to movie projectors.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Most (if not all) of the things Rodcorte has done to kill Vandalieu have ended up being beneficial for the latter.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: As mentioned bellow, pretty much everything can made into some type of undead. Special mention goes to Bellmond who, while not a zombie, is a vampire who originally was a forest-monkey-type beast woman who descended from lamias and manifested part of this phisically.
  • No-Sell: Quite a few of them
    • Vandalieu (like Guduranis before him) is able to create barriers that can nullify physical attacks and magic, the barriers are limited only by his mana, which is almost in the range of billions.
    • Vandalieu was once decapitated... only for him to casually grab his head and put it back on.
  • Nonindicative Name: The many attributes of magic as they control more of a concept than their name indicate, i,e, fire attribute magic controls heat so it can produce ice, or wind attribute magic can control gravity by changing atmospheric pressure. Death attribute magic allows for the spontaneous creation of golems, apparently.
    • The Empusa race are quick to be pointed out to look nothing like the creatures of mythology by Van, them being half mantis females instead.
  • Older Than They Look: The many long lived races, with special mention to ghouls (the females of which stop aging after being impregnated), vampires (who stop aging after being converted, with the added bonus of immortality), and majins (who stop aging after reaching adulthood, with the added bonus of immortality).
    • Zadiris is mentioned to appear about 14-15 years old but is actually over 290 years old at the time of her first appearance in the story.
  • One-Gender Race: Many of the Vida's races are exclusively female, particularly those that take mostly from Vida's genes.
  • One-Note Cook: Is pointed out that most adventurers do little to non actual cooking due to being most of the time eating whatever they can on the field or simply buy already prepared meals on towns.
  • Our Gods Are Different: There are three ways a god can be born: an already living being becoming powerful enough to be considered a god (i.e. the Evil Gods), plainly being born as a god (i.e. Lambda's gods) or being born from belief (i.e. Earth (in japanese), EARTH (in english) and Origin).
    • While the gods of Lambda and the Evil Gods (while alien looking) have distinctive looks, the gods of Earth and Origin are said to look like an amalgamation of every god (read: supernatural entity) of every religion, constantly fighting each other, never allowing the others to make miracles, and therefore never being able to distinct themselves for one another. On Earth, where magic does not exist, it's even worse, as even fictional characters are entangled in that mess.
    • Later on in the story, a goddess version of Pluto is born out of the belief of all the people that The Eighth Guidance saved. While she is not part of the amalgamation that is Origin's god, she is not able the exercise her power as she was only recently born.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: For a start, they are not undead and while they are damaged by sunlight, it is explained that is because of the light element that it contains which is their real weakness, which they can also gain resistance to, though admitedly they would most probably die before they do. The original Vampire was born from the union of Vida and at the time reanimated body Champion Zakkart, with said vampire performing a (extrenuous and long) ritual to transform Vida's followers into the (weaker) second generation of vampires.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: The undead encountered in Lambda are results of either magic, soul possession or a desire for revenge.
  • Past-Life Memories: Rodcorte make sure this doesn't happen, since it produce bug in his reincarnation system unless he prepare for it like he did at the start of the story, and even then he make sure they can't remember until they are 5 years old, as it may bring mental instability and unnecesary stress to a toddler brain. Vandalieu remembering the last 30+ years of his life was definitelly not part of his plans.
  • Perception Filter: Ghost's ability makes him be unable to be perceived by those around him, pointing out that security cameras, sensors or even being in direct sigth of people make him acknowledged until he anounce his precense by touching others or talking.
  • Playboy Bunny: Basdia is made to wear one while working as a waitress in Talosheim casino. Then they start to discuss why is it a bunny and not any other animal and what would they do if they hire someone of the other beast people tribes apart from bunny types.
  • Practical Currency: After being rebuilt, the citizens of Talosheim use food and other goods as currency, this keeps on even after coins are introduced.
    • Even Lunas have a practical application as the higher denomination is made out of different magical metals which is quickly pointed out to be useful in case of war as it can be melted and made into powerful equipment.
  • Proud Warrior Race: Both the Majin and the Kijin, ageless Vida's races with high combat abilities and descendants of of both Vida and Zantark had been the protectors of the Boundary Mountain Range ever since its creation a hundred thousand years ago, protecting it from potential ouside invasion and culling high rank dungeons to avoid possible stampedes of powerful monsters. This is also the reason they choose a king via a tournament as they usually don't follow those mentally or physically weaker than them.
  • Poverty Food: Gobu-Gobu, a meal made marinating goblin meat (said to be so repugnant that eating bugs is much better) inside gobubu grass (that appears as much as goblins and is just as bad tasting) juice. The result is a increadibly bland, if edible and nutritious meal eaten only during emergencies.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Van's rejuvenation massages are said to be quite... stimulating to the senses. As he is basically applying a massage to the whole body (including nerves and organs) while increasing sensitivity as a byproduct of thoroughly making the body as good as a newborn's, is to be expected one or another cry to stop. Not that Van notices since he thinks it's actually painful.
  • Punched Across the Room: Scheider is famous for doing this to nobles who piss him off too much.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: While the lines of good and evil get blurred a lot during the story, rape is absolutely condemned as being an evil and disgusting act.
  • Really Gets Around:
    • Vida, as the goddess of life and love, is said to be quite a "wild" goddess, and created numerous races with all manner of other gods and even some mortals.
    • Scheider as well, though he does feel ashamed that he was this during this youth. Though it may be because he didn't know he had children with multiple women.
    • Tiamat, the greatest of the surviving god dragons, also has a long line of dragons and half-dragon races through various lovers to her name.
  • The Reveal: Volume 3's Side Chapter 5: "Vida". Vandalieu is actually the reincarnation of the 4 Champions who were killed and had their soul shattered by the Demon King in Lambda's past. Rodcorte, wanting to prevent the gods of Lambda from disrupting his transmigration system any further by attempting to revive them, had taken the champions' soul shards, still filled with the remnants of the demon king's death-attribute mana, and pushed them together into a new poorly formed soul, which he then deposited on Earth. This is why Van has access to the death-attribute, why his soul is so strange, and why his 'Empty Frame' is so large his mp is in the millions. It is also why the prophecies about him exist, how he got out of Rodcorte's circle and became one of Vida's races, and why his level growth is so fast. The various gods in Vida's faction wanted to help him as a means of atonement for failing their friends 100,000 years ago, even if Van wasn't actually them anymore.
  • Reincarnate In Another World: In the very first chapter, Van and a hundred others get reincarnated on Origin by Rodcorte, the God of Reincarnation, to become stronger before being send to Lambda, a world he refers as "undeveloped" (which he conveniently forgot to mention).
  • Religion of Evil: Averted with The Eighth Guidance. While they are not necessarily good (being a terrorist group) they are known to never kill people unnecessarily and use their powers to save the lives of people in need. Even their acts of terrorism are only against Death Attribute investigation facilities or those that try to harm them, which are usually the same anyway.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Mostly Averted by Vandalieu and his group. While he believes that if there is a reason to take revenge you must absolutely take it, he also does not let it spill over to those around his targets of revenge. As a species that long-lived species, the Titans tell him that they don't let their grudges carry over to the next generation, believing that since the target of their revenge is already dead they must start anew with their children. But, if you are the target of their ire, well...
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After breaking free of his captors, Vandalieu goes through one before dying in Origin.
    • After the death of his mother, Vandalieu swears to take revenge on all the people involved in her death. He keeps a bone of his late mother as a keepsake to house her spirit.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something:
    • Marshukzarl von Amid Bellwood, reigning emperor of the Amid Empire. He make sure of the continuous existance and expancion the Empire by using everything he can to maintain his people safe, be it by maintaining Alda's Church at bay so they don't take complete control over it or keeping various Vida's races' 'secret' villages hostage to have some kind of control over Schneider, with at some point even bringing the idea of making Vandalieu make him a zombie army (one of the biggest taboo of Alda's religion) to fight the Orbaume Kingdom.
    • The kings and queens of the kingdoms inside the Boundary Mountain Range, tripling as their kingdoms strongest warriors and direct communication to their guardian gods. This also include Vandalieu as their emperor and Vida's Holy Child, bringing many advancements in different fields including technology, military, medicine and economy.
  • RPG-Mechanics Verse: The world of Lambda works like this, with all beings possessing a level, rank and/or job, stats, and abilities. It is revealed that since the ancient inhabitants of Lambda were so weak, as apart from dangerous animals or the occasional accident there was no major danger, either Ricklent or Zuruwarn created the system and gods to supervise skills, levels and titles for them to have a fighting chance against the vastly superior Demon King Army. Later on, Guduranis somehow modified it to introduce a rank system for his monsters, making it possible for them to rank up.
  • Scale of Scientific Sins: Vandalieu and Luciliano may as well have the list in hand, given how they seems to work exclusively from it.
  • Science Fantasy: Both science and magic exist and are used in conjunction in the world of Origin.
  • Sentient Vehicle: As pointed out many times, Sam's real body is the carriage, not the ghostly man sitting in the coach seat, nor the ghostly horses pulling it, both of which are essentially an Astral Projection.
  • Serious Business: Food, or at least for the Vida's races, Talosheim even starting a military campaign against the lizardmen and later against the noble orcs mostly for food related reasons. The kingdoms inside the Boundary Mountain Range join as well by trying to reproduce the Champions favorite meals using their diaries as guides.
  • Shout-Out: There are a few references slipped in here and there.
    • Chapter 112: Q: Is this a prisoner? A: No, it is live bait.
    • In chapter 170, three girls make their debut as magical girls.
Zadiris: Pauvina and Rapiéçage are using ‘honki karu’ and ‘uraura karu’ as their transformation words. What do they mean? I can understand Magical, but I do not understand Lyrical at all.
Vandalieu: … It is a phrase that girls say after they transform, I suppose. I don’t know how they know it, though.
Valkyrie: I taught it to them!
  • Super Team: The Bravers, led by Hiroto Amemiya, are this in the world of Origin.
  • Tear Off Your Face: While not shown, Isla cut off Duke Marme's face and left it in his office as a warning.
    • Braga become known as the "Face Tearing Demon" preciselly because of this, as all he leave behind of the criminals he kill are their cleanly cut off faces. He complain later on when a copycat appears because they don't do it as well as he does.
  • That Man Is Dead: Brought up from time to time, with Narukami claiming that it is ridiculous to bring past relationship after being reincarnated, in his case his teacher-student relationship with many of the Bravers.
    • Aside from not even remembering their actual names, the members of the Eigtht Guidance don't want to go back to a time before they met "The Undead", as they like the life they have now.
    • While not an alter ego, Vandalieu think this way of his life as Amemiya Hiroto, forgetting his grudges of what happened in his past life as he prefers to concentrate more in protecting his current happiness, as most thinking of his past lives as "memories of someone else".
  • The Darkness Gazes Back: The essence behind the [Abyss] skill. It's described as the user becoming the abyss to which one looks at, reflecting any eye based ability (read: looks at them in any phisical or metaphorical way) and guard them from becoming a monster, whil enemies should fear becoming a monster themselves.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Friend is such a strong word, Rodcorte is more like... that one Insufferable Genius that keeps getting in the way of your job but you still need.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: While he is very much conscious of being a having over 40 years of life experience, Van sometimes acts like a child for this very reason.
    • It seems to be common when it comes to being reincarnated without losing one's memories, as Rodcorte comments that he sealed away the Bravers' memories until they became 5 years old, both to minimize the strain to their baby brains, which can't handle the thought process of a fully developed adult, and so they don't become traumatized for being trapped in such an small body.
  • The Undead: One of the many types of monsters appearing in Lambda, they include ghosts, liches, skeletons, and zombies. Subverted for ghouls and vampires, who are very much alive and not very dead. This raises the possibility of vampire zombies.
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: The form taken by the Evil God of the Magic Tome, Buburdura. He was 'sealed' away in the forbidden section of a mages' guild, awaiting those that want to read him for the power his forbidden knowledge would bring. However, Buburdura also eats their minds to recover his own power. Van accidentally eats Buburdura after the latter tries to take over his body.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Vandalieu makes a necklace with a bone fragment of his mother, which serves as the 'anchor' for Darcia's soul so she does not pass on or become a ghost.
  • Underestimating Badassery: So, you are following a group of ghouls that you know for sure have escaped by climbing a mountain that you know is the nest of extremelly dangerous dragon, were even the safe route is filled with cliffs were said dragons usually hunt prey, and then take residence in the third most dangerous territory in the whole planet, were even the weakest monster (beside goblins) is strong enough to destroy a village, inside the city walls of a country that was surrounded by dungeons that have not been cleared in a long enough time that a monster stampede have almost certainly happened in the last 200 years, but have not found any monster stronger than a large dog around said city? Sure, they can't possibly be strong enough to destroy our army that was not even prepared for most monster in that place! They are being led by the dhampir child that have been evading death since he was one year old and have probably been hunting his own food since then you say? Ha, he is just a stupid, weak child, what could he possibly do?
  • Übermensch: After being betrayed by family members, governments, religions and other authorities in his various lives, Van generally rejects the concept of objective morality or god given rights, and instead believes in his own subjective morality of finding happiness in his own life, treating those who treat him well or poorly in kind, and helping those who need help because it makes him feel good rather than out of any underlying moral obligation. Van will also readily admit to his various antagonists that from their own subjective viewpoints he may seem insane or evil, but he still intends to try to lead a life that makes him and those he cares about happy.
  • Van Helsing Hate Crimes: Due to being marked as monsters by the Church of Alda, the races of Vida are often the targets of genocides and other atrocities, whether they were actually evil or not.
  • Villains Want Mercy: While not necesarily villains, many of the early antagonist start asking for mercy the moment they notice they are at an dissadvantage. The usual answer is: "Then you should not have started a fight with us!".
  • Walking Disaster Area: Vandalieu as "The Undead" constantly released deadly viruses and poisons into the air, made poisonous mosses and mushrooms upon any surfaces close to him and made others go suicidically mad just from seen or hearing him. The only reason the Bravers were able to kill him was because he though they wouere there to rescue him.
  • What's Up, King Dude?: Lampshaded, Mikhail points out how it is common sense for him to treat Vandalieu with absolute respect as his king and how the others are the weird ones for being overly casual with the way they address him.
  • Workaholic: Van, to the point that people have to force him to rest after they notice he acquired the [Surpass Limits] skill. He later works away around this issue by creating materialized spirit clones to work while his main body rests.
    • Played With his 'daughters', the Gehenna Bees, as they consider everything they do to be working, including eating (since they can't work if they are hungry) and properly resting (since they can't work if they are tired).
  • Written by the Winners: It is slowly revealed and expanded how the recorded history of the Demon King War and the Alda-Vida War was heavily skewed in favor of Alda and the battle oriented champions (particularly Bellwood) with missinformation, erased accomplishments and down right "lies", most of it to discredit the creation oritented champions, Vida and Vida's races. The fact that many Evil Gods actually rebeled against Guduranis and fought alongside the forces of Lambda in particular is not even know about outside of the Boundary Mountain Range.
  • You Are Number 6: Vandalieu and The Eighth Guidance members were referred as D-'number' during their time as guinea pigs. Vandalieu was D-01, as he was the first death attribute user.
  • Younger Than They Look: Monsters, since they were originally intended to be used as troops by the Demon King Army, age at an increased speed. Pauvina is a special case since she looks like a pre-teen even when she is younger than Van, actually looking like a 6 years old only a year after being born, even when she is only half-noble orc.
  • Zerg Rush: Whenever dungeons are left unattended for a long period of time powerful monsters from lower levels start to ascend out of it, making every monster weaker than them to run from it and do the same, eventually provoking an outbreak that will start attacking any settlement close by. This is know to almost always result in the abandonment of said settlements since, unless it is a sufficiently big city, most of the guards and adventurers are too weak to fight it back the continuous waves of monsters.
