So, from the discussion we've had on this page, there's a general consensus to split this into at least two tropes. However, based on the examples there seem to be about four types of tropes represented here: Firstly, adaptations that fix internal inconsistencies or plot holes, but otherwise strive to remain true to the original work; secondly, works that make updates to address ScienceMarchesOn when newer knowledge is problematic for the story; thirdly, changes in the story to accommodate modern social mores and avoid ValuesDissonance, and finally works that incorporate a SettingUpdate, which can easily overlap with any of the first three but especially the ValuesDissonance one.

My inclination at this point is to split this into two pages: one for adaptations that fix plot holes, and one for updates in science or cultural values. In both cases effort will be made to distinguish between a SettingUpdate and an adaptation that retains the original setting but updates elements within the original story. The suggested titles for these are FixedInTheAdaptation and UpdatedInTheAdaptation, respectively, though I'm worried these could easily be confused with one another, so I'm open to more distinct title suggestions.
