I'll try to differentiate these from TheyChangedItNowItSucks. In-universe examples * Lee Chaolan in VideoGame/Tekken entered the 5th King of Iron Fist tournament for the express purpose of finding Kazuya Mishima and taking revenge on him. He later found out it was Jinpachi running the event, lost interest and went home. * Albel Nox in VideoGame/StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime decided to join the party on their adventures in space after determining that Elicoor II (his planet) is boring with his rival Duke Vox dead (he was tied to his home via the chance to kill one and only one man). Being the BloodKnight he is, the chance to fight other-dimensional entities was just more exciting than living out his days on a peaceful world. * In WebComic/DragonBallMultiverse, Vegeta works out a graph to determine the best outcome of the matches in order for him to fight the Goku of his own dimension, despite the opportunity to battle any number of former enemies (Cell, Bojack, Future Trunks, etc). This happened quite a bit: the Androids of Universe 14 entered for the chance to finally kill Goku, Android 16 of Universe 12 wanted the opportunity to kill at least one of the several Kakarots involved in the tournament, and Dr. Raichi specifically entered to wipe out as many Saiyans as possible (having already done so in his own universe). Now for some AudienceReaction examples: * VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters XII excluding fan-favorite Mai Shiranui rubbed a number of people the wrong way. * In general, many fighting game designers fear this trope whenever they have to get rid of a character for story-line purposes, because they know someone out there likely got attached to that character's move-set. It isn't uncommon for these characters to get replaced by a functionally identical fighter, sometimes a LegacyCharacter. When Kazuya Mishima in VideoGame/Tekken proved too popular on a story-line level, he was revived and his replacement, Jin Kazama, learned to fight differently. Later on, that version of Jin would receive a replacement in Devil Jin, who uses many "classic" attacks Jin had in his Tekken 3 play-style , combined with some supernatural additions. * Many fans of the VideoGame/DevilMayCry series refused to take to VideoGame/DmCDevilMayCry in part because of the new aesthetic, and how they just generally prefer the classic Dante (though that was hardly their only complaint). [=DmC=] mostly failed to transfer over the previous installments' fan-base. ** The older fans also banded together to support anything with classic Dante in it, such as the HD collection and VideoGame/ProjectXZone, in an attempt to show Capcom how willing they were to buy something so long as classic Dante is in it. * Speaking of VideoGame/ProjectXZone, many weren't pleased with the lack of Sonic on the Creator/Sega side. * Many concert tours will see a good number of tickets refunded should any of the bands cancel their involvement (due to sickness or other personal problems). No matter how obscure the act, someone bought that ticket specifically to see them and them alone. * Related to the above-concept, any RevolvingDoorBand will have this reaction eventually, most likely because one of the members was key in their attachment to the band (Music/GunsNRoses being a good example). It isn't uncommon for "refugees" from other fanbases to join each other as fans of whatever act that members works under next. ** There's a weird case of this with Music/Queensryche, who eventually fired their lead singer Geoff Tate for being too controlling, and he continued to tour under the Queensryche name. Now there's two Queensryches out there, both playing very different material. Which is these shows you choose to attend depends on which member was your personal Godzilla. * A related concept happens whenever a long-time actor leaves a show. * Some people unsubcribed from WebVideo/GameGrumps after WebVideo/JonTron left the show and Danny joined in his place.
