WesternAnimation Too immature for kids and too trippy for stoners
Uncle Grandpa is one of the worst things Cartoon Network has ever crapped out. It's almost as bad as modern Nickelodeon. The characters are all immature, unlikeable, borderline retarded, or any combination of the three. Each individual episode of this trash is stupider than an entire season of post-movie SpongeBob.The plots are so stupid that only a preschooler or an idiot would find them entertaining. Save your time and brain cells by avoiding this piece of animated crap.
WesternAnimation Not Perfect, But Fun and Interesting
Let's get this out of the way. At first glance, the show as a whole does seem kind of stupid. There is no plot, and the randomness of it approaches Newgrounds flash animation circa 2003 levels. It's chock full of puns and groan-inducing jokes that would make Carrot Top blush.
However, on the inside, the show is actually somewhat of a love-letter to the Golden Age of animation. The creator has stated that much of his inspiration came from Tex Avery cartoons and Looney Tunes shorts. If you pay attention you can see this pretty easily. Alongside the dopey, random humor, there's just as much visual gags and animation quips which are straight out of the 1940s. It's hard to describe in words, but similar to Golden Age cartoons, physics barely exist, and the fact the show is animation is taken full advantage of for the sake of visual jokes.
On top of this, the animation and artstyle itself is very reminiscent of older MAD comics, and the story concepts themselves are charming in their own way. At its heart, the show is about a zany reality warper who helps everyone out.
If you appreciate Uncle Grandpa for what it is, a pure fun, comedy cartoon, you can enjoy it. Don't try to comprehend it or understand it, it's basically the show equivalent of a candy bar. Just enjoy it.
WesternAnimation A Love Letter to Creativity
It's easy to dismiss Uncle Grandpa as another Adult Swim reject. The drawing style isn't initially attractive and the original pilot seemed to be gross just for the sake of provoking a reaction. However, upon viewing a few episodes of the series you can see the bright, funny, and unique atmosphere of the many worlds of Uncle Grandpa.
In regards to the plot, there isn't one. Aside from the main cast and recurring gags there is little that connects one episode to another. However, this works to Uncle Grandpa advantage as the series breaks the rules just as fast as it establishes them. Sometimes it does both at the same time. Rather than stick to a single universe, Uncle Grandpa travels through space, time, states of the mind, any number of different dimensions, and even smashing through the fourth wall by having someone draw an episode. Its a journey through the unknown, that makes the show so much fun
If you can get past the crude jokes made about his name, Uncle Grandpa is a fun character to watch. Many of his adventures involve Uncle Grandpa helping a kid overcome an obstacle or situation they are encountering by expanding it into a fantastical adventure. He possesses the body of an adult but the heart and mind of a child. This allows him to supervise children as he takes them with him on his adventures yet still allow him to speak to them like a peer or equal. Sometimes its the kid that ends up saving Uncle Grandpa.
The other characters in the main cast are just as colorful. Pizza Steve is the smooth talking charmer whose conceited antics backfire in hilarious ways. Mr.Gus is the deadpan snarker that futilely attempts to make sense of his constantly fluctuating world. Finally, the team pet is Giant Realistic Flying Tiger that plays the Timmy Down a Well trope whenever it can. Besides its a tiger that can fly trailing rainbows. It needs no further justification.
Uncle Grandpa does a good job inspiring viewers. Its variety of different art styles and scenarios increase imagination and broaden creativity. Aside from young children this show appeals to also developing writers and artists, although I think many different age groups could enjoy it. Uncle Grandpa may have a premise that is the definition of strange but you'll be surprised to find kids and older viewers alike relating to it.
WesternAnimation One Of The Weirdest Shows On Cartoon Network
Title says it all, really. Ah, Uncle Grandpa, a show you'll either love or hate with a passion. After watching a few episodes, I can safely say that while the show is not as bad as people say, it's certainly not the best.
Overall, it's a fun show, but nothing special.
