This is one of the sweetest things I've ever read for any fandom. The characterization is dead-on—or rather, well-adapted to the different tone—and the author really makes you feel for the ordinary people and their troubles, which range from the trivial (A Canadian child too shy to practice ice skating in public) to the tragic (a Chinese man unjustly imprisoned for an accidental death). Each chapter ends on a sublimely hopeful note for the citizen, and with the nation reflecting on their people's national character and how it will pull this particular individual through their crisis.
