Offended
On the main page, it says not to go to this page. DON'T, it's some nasty shtuff. This troper, being curious as she is went to it. That was a mistake. While I have a strong stomach and have seen many a nasty image before, you may not be the same. If you think you're up for the challenge and you're not used to such nastiness, prepare yourself with a bucket, because you are going to throw up if you haven't experienced things like this before.
I'm curious now... what is it?

What, the site?

It's a wiki, kind of like this one...no, actually, scratch that, it's nothing at all like this one. It catalogues the flora and fauna found in the most ill-begotten crevices of teh interwebs, and can be acerbically funny because it's very, very offensive. It uses a kind of language of its own, resembling but only distantly related to English, and is written almost entirely in memes.

Don't go there unless you're fluent in chan-ese.

In fact...Just don't go there at all.

Is this like The Pain Series?
Mr. Lostman 29th Jul 09
Not specifically, although there's an article on that.

It's just a superindex of internet culture, but internet culture being what it is...

I was just wanting to compare Offended to The Pain series, curious to see if they both had disgusting images. (Seriously, I can't unsee those things. =\)

That which is seen can never be un-seen. Unfortunately. But it's not so much the visual grotesquery (which exists only to get a rise out of you), or even the content of the site itself: it's that it shows the very worst of human behaviour and misanthropy as displayed by various online subcultures and personas.

Speaking of pages on the site you probably might not want to look at (unless your drawn to those sort of things) would be their article on kittens. It has absolutely nothing to do with kittens.

Sorry if what I'm asking seems a bit naive, but is there anywhere on the 'net I can get an in-depth step-by-step description of what awaits for me on Offended and/or the Pain Series? Without having to look at the articles or the pictures?

Why on earth would you want that? Details other than "it's fucking horrible" are superflous. But if you really must know, Urban Dictionary gives a number of succinct definitions, but honestly speaking, the concept isn't that complicated: the Pain Series is just a load of images depicting unspeakably gross things. If you absolutely must know, things like rotting human foetuses, and that's one of the tamer things. I don't even know how some of those things are even legal, but it's unlikely that the makers find that much of an issue.

Yeah, it's the Pain Series. It's noted by a few E Diots that it won't faze med students and others (I've seen worse in med textbooks, and few of those are actually med students fucking around with a corpse).

If you want a description just watch a reaction video on youtube. There are tons of them.

Though now, thanks to a friend of mine who's effed up as I am, I've seen so much worse than offended.

If you get queasy at all from graphic ultra-disgusting gore (and then some), don't look at it. I was at first, but then my brain just shut down and I scrolled to the bottom of the page. All in all, I was unaffected. I was worried I would be haunted by it. Nope.

Offended gives you a Schmuck Bait warning before the page even starts. It starts out with a work-safe image, so you can safely go to that Page. Don't even think about doing the same with Pain & Kittens. As said before, the final image on Offended is also work-safe, the joke being that people are more offended by Bush than anything else, which, despite Encyclopaedia Dramaticas reputation, is an excellent social criticism.
