Unskippable cutscene: The game

Having played through Pokemon Sun, I can easily say it was a very fun experience, and I enjoyed taking on the trials, which are a nice change of pace from the gyms that have been there for about 20 years.

So, I bought Pokemon Moon in hopes of playing again without needing to delete my save. However, I didn't even reach the first Pokemon Centre. The reason why? The cutscenes! Good grief, there are so many of them! If you've heard complaints of it taking 20 minutes to get a starter, then I can assure you that they are accurate. That's not even the full brunt of it. With this amount of cutscenes, they really need to ability to press start and skip them.

Simply put, it's a fun game on the first playthrough, but when playing again, you should be ready to mash the 'A' button into oblivion just to get to the actual gameplay. I just hope Ultra Sun and Moon get the point, and allow cutscenes to be skipped, or at least fast forwarded.

Wait, so you stopped playing Pokemon Moon incredibly quickly because of the cutscenes...even though you played Pokemon Sun before it? Which also has the issue of a bunch of cutscenes? Did it just not bother you the first time?

My guess, he hadn't experienced the story then so he didn't mind as much because he either didn't know how long they were or already having the experienced spoiled by his first play-though. When you know just what is going to happened and especialy experienced it first-hand, going through it again with that knowledge does make it a bit tedious (hence why some people are incensed by spoilers).

This is why it\'s not popular to speedrun. :)

However, this review can\'t be fair, as it\'s the same game as the other one, so you should\'ve copy pasted the same glowing praise (if any) you had for the first playthrough, but then say at the end that the replay value (of the main game) is marred by the amount of cutscenes.

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!

Exactly, Morning Star. The first time, I didn\'t know the story, so I was actually interested in the cutscenes. Second time, I already know what\'s going to happen, so it\'s just, \"Let me play the damn game, already!\"

Malco, I consider replayability to be an important factor of any game. If the replayability is compromised by something, then that definitely hurts the game for me.

The problem here is that you're applying replay value to story, which can be said for nearly any video game without branching routes. Of course you aren't going to be as surprised or as mystified on the second runthrough; that natural discovery is gone. If anything, I'd argue that Pokemon games have better replay value than most games thanks to the nigh-infinite amounts of teams you can run.
