The problems with Pew Die Pie.

By definition, a Let's Play is focused on the game, not the player. The players contribute, but the main focus is on the game.

With Pew Die Pie, however, he takes front and center, and the game is relegated to the background. People come for the 'comedy', not '"Scary" Indie Game #674'. He's less of a Let's Player, and more of a Youtube 'Comedian'. So, is his comedy act good?

No. NOOOO.

His stage persona is an atrocity, pandering to the Lowest Common Denominator at every turn. There is no hint of wit or intelligent comedy in his routine, only ear-splitting shrieks, disgusting jokes, and tired catchphrases. In between his overused jokes, he takes Refuge In Vulgarity to an appalling extreme that brings the works of Seltzer And Friedberg to mind. He contributes nothing to whatever game he's molesting, only serving to lessen the experience. What else do you expect, though, from a man who sees video games as work, and his audience as nothing more than dollar signs?

In summary, Pew Die Pie is a Youtube performer whose performance is as stale as last year's bread, as tasteless as Holocaust jokes at a bar mitzvah, and as disgusting as finding a maggot in a bowl of oatmeal. Avoid.

What is with Pewdie haters and adamantly refusing to believe he just does these things for fun? He's stated it multiple times, not to mention the times he's thanked his fans for getting him where he is. And just because he isn't funny to you doesn't mean he isn't funny. I don't know much about the world, but hunreds of thousands of subscribers must mean he's doing something right.

^Appeal To Popularity. Twilight has thousands of fans, for instance.

Well said indeed. I always find it difficult to put into words why I despise people like Pew Die Pie and you have done me the great kindness of doing so for me.

Thank you.

There's a far more balanced review on TV Tropes for PewDiePie than this. I recommend it much more than I recommend this bloated, exaggerated excuse of a review.

The guys's not as bad as you seem to paint him. He's not exactly a great comedian or even a great game player, but he's enthusiastic about what he does. This can be annoying when he just sort of expresses it with noise, but seeing a person genuinely excited to be playing a game instead of picking it apart as they go along, positively or negatively, is a really refreshing thing to see.

The comedy's not so bad every now and again, and last I checked he didn't crack a post-pubescent Harry Potter joke or show/describe a big, pulsating growth on a woman's back exploding into pus. Even compared to Seltzer and Friedburg's most watchable movie, Meet the Spartans, most PewDiePie videos have much more life and - dare I say it? - enjoyable comedy. It's not exactly high society comedy, which from the looks of your review seems to be what you were expecting.

And he loves his fanbase. He takes time every week to record a video to level with his viewers, and for every major milestone he releases a thank-you note to his viewers. If he needs to take a break due to stress or a convention, he releases a video apologizing for the lack of content.

You know what? Despite the shortcomings of his act, it's not nearly as bad as you describe it to be. Some things you don't seem to have researched or discovered for yourself. And if you went after the fanbase, I probably wouldn't have commented about it, because there are some crazy motherfuckers in the "Bro Army".

If you want a subjective but actually analytic review of PewDiePie, I recommend "Seen Better, Seen Worse" by Elmo 3000 - they aren't a mindless lover of PewDiePie, but they also don't see a need to act like a pretentious douche about the lack of quality.

Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.

Pew Die Pie himself isn't that bad. His fanbase is awful though.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with him if he wasn't the most popular Let's Player on youtube. Much like no one would hate Justin Bieber if he wasn't as popular as he is.

@Mc Someguy: Why would people hate something just because it's popular?

"What's out there? What's waiting for me?"

Because people are stupid.

^^ Because the people who are predisposed to hate it wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't high-profile.

Because the quality of the content is disproportionate to it's popularity.
