It says "As if you would kill off potentially the best villain in the franchise at the end of the first movie". Well, yes, Superhero Movie Villains Die, so the death of Loki was a plausible outcome. It wouldn't had been much of a surprise if it happened. The fandom for Loki was generated after the movie, so that factor may have saved him in Avengers but not in Thor. And Marvel wasn't lacking villains for future films, they have reserves.
