Tropers generally lean to cut as he's less nasty that Roche.

Cigarette Smoking Man I saw as more of a Punch Clock Villain, believe it or not. "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man" showed he wasn't all bad, unreliable narrator or not. The man's dream was writing crappy airplane books, and he would've happily stopped doing... whatever he was doing... when he got the chance to be published.
EDIT: Thanks to your excellent summary on the original thread, my memory is updated for many examples:
Tooms: Never saw him as a Complete Monster, just a beast acting on instinct and need. I say cut.
Jack Franklyn: Oh, keep the sumbitch.
2shy: Similar to Tooms, but less "beastly." He struck me as less instinctive as Tooms, but equally desperate. Cut.
Paper Hearts: Keep.

The Warden: I'd actually say cut, he doesn't sound heinous enough since he only abuses people and commits one murder.
Darren Peter Oswald: Cut, not heinous enough and too many sympathetic traits to qualify.
Virgil "2Shy" Incanto: Leaning towards cut because it's a biological imperative necessary for survival.
Leonard Trimble: Cut. If he's doing it for revenge on the treatment of veterans than he may be a dark Well Intentioned Extremist.
John Barnett: On-the-fence. He doesn't strike me as heinous as the others.
John Lee Roche: Keep.
Molester from Oubliette: On-the-fence, John Lee Roche sounds worse.
Colonel from Fresh Bones: Keep.

Thanks. I tried to log in your votes. It shapes up quite nicely, though some of them need votes or arguments for keeping/cutting.
I agree that a separate sub-page for this show is a good idea and most examples need re-write. I'll take it as my responsibility since I brought that up.
