The Values Dissonance example doesn't really make any sense; I think someone mixed up the definitions of Asexuality, as Asexual people still have biological sexes. When asexual is used in biology, it refers to creatures that reproduce asexually.

Greg's reasoning shouldn't offend Asexual people (or anyone) as all human beings have biological sexes. I'm not ace myself, so there may be something I don't understand here.

Actually, this isn't even in the work itself. Nobody made the point that romance cannot exist without biological sex. It's merely an comment made by the creator of the work. I think we should change it to Fan-Disliked Explanation.

Good point, and the Steven Universe tangent feels more like a Hilarious in Hindsight thing more than a Values Dissonance one.

Also, while it has been 20 years since Bionicle's release, Greg's statement was made several years into the franchise's original run which may have made it invalid for Values Dissonance in the first place.

For some reason, my edit description didn't go through, so I'm gonna put it here: do not use rape metaphors for silly things. It's tasteless as hell and a Berserk Button for quite a few people (myself included).

Troper Kirby 0189 added Mata Nui's character arc to They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot in the YMMV page of BIONICLE, with the following context:

"Mata Nui's character arc in 2009's The Legend Reborn direct to DVD movie has some interesting potential. Having been betrayed by the leader of a rogue faction of nanomachines who were supposed to help regulate his giant mecha body in part because Mata Nui was too busy exploring the cosmos to figure out how to repair the shattered pieces of Spherus Magna as per his designated purpose by the Great Beings, you would think his crash landing onto an alien Mad Max-like culture and being a Fish out of Water with nothing to his name would have served for some solid character development with him learning to befriend those usually beneath him, which would be especially interesting given that Bara Magna had been set up as the inverse of the Matoran Universe. Instead, Mata Nui is already a Nice Guy and almost immediately finds allies to rather easily unite the tribes against the Skrall, with his former status as a Physical God being used mostly for brief mentions here and there rather than part of his struggle."

I have to ask: is this valid? Mata Nui is the main character and, by definition, he can't be wasted. What do you think?

Yea, the original entry was actually added by Aspie_Gamer, but they added it to They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character where it was rather complainy. For reference:

"How some fans feel about Mata Nui as a character in 2009's The Legend Reborn direct to DVD movie. Having been betrayed by the leader of a rogue faction of nanomachines who were supposed to help regulate his giant mecha body in part because Mata Nui was too busy exploring the cosmos to figure out how to repair the shattered pieces of Spherus Magna as per his designated purpose by the Great Beings, you would think his crash landing onto an alien Mad Max-like culture and being a Fish out of Water with nothing to his name would have served for some solid character development especially given that Bara Magna had been set up as the inverse of the Matoran Universe. Instead, Mata Nui basically Gary Stus his way to helping fix the lack of unity amongst the disconnected tribes even handing out free elemental powers to some of the Glatorians so they can effortlessly one-shot the Skrall tribe and remove them from the region."

I have a tendency where I try to take entries that are clearly trying to make a point but don't quite get it across and then turn them into something valid, since there's a rather unfortunate trend I've noticed on this site where people try to re-add their cut entries under new tropes, even if they still don't fit. This way, their content is still there, but adjusted to not be complaining anymore and be somewhere it fits. The idea I was going for here was "change entry from accusing Mata Nui of being a Gary Stu who wins too easily" into "entry about how Matu Nui could have had trouble adjusting to his new conditions but instead manages to get along with the people of Bara Magna rather easily". It might still be bad, but it's slightly better.
