It would only make sense if the person in the Black Lion isn't part of the team. The Leader is still part of the team, and why Keith wasn't successful is that he wasn't utilizing his team well. Shiro did.

By the way, there seem to be a lot of justifying edits concerning how brilliant a leader Keith is (e.g. under The Artifact, where it has no business being, and Character Shilling). Are these necessary?
Not really seeing what you mean by them. Looking at the editing history they've only experienced a few changes and most of them seem to be additive. In which case, if you want to remove the text contained within the note that was added to Character Shilling I wouldn't object since that sounds a little like what you're describing.
Edited by AlleyOopCan we establish a consistent spoilers policy for this page?
Right now the spoiler tagging for this page is kind of all over the place. Though it does err on the side of caution, I noticed generally plot points regarding end-of-season information is, but sometimes it leads to strangeness where the announcement of the existence of Lotor is spoiled, but another entry will say his name outright without tagging. Or the existence of the Blade of Marmora, which is no longer considered shocking this far into the show.
I'm thinking the tagging can be changed so that only information pertaining to the most recent season ought to be spoilertagged. Anything before that counts as a Late-Arrival Spoiler, including the reveal that Zarkon is the former Black Paladin, that Shiro disappears at the end of Season 2, and that he returns in Season 3.
Edited by AlleyOop Hide / Show RepliesSeasons 1 and 2 should definitely be spoilers off by now. I'm a bit on the fence about 3, since it's only just been out for a month and a half and technically makes a full-length season with 4, but unofficial spoiler policy on the wiki does follow the "latest season only" rule so I'm fine with that.
Fair enough. I'm going to unspoiler everything related to Seasons 1 and 2, will wait on other opinions as for what to do with 3.
Perhaps only the major plot twists (eg. all the backstory revealed in S 03 E 06 can remain a spoiler, but things like Lotor's existence and the Paladins reshuffling lions can be spoilers off.
Considering how ridiculously close together releases have been as a whole, definitely leave spoilers for 3 and 4.

Hop on over to this page and add them.Just my thoughts but I think it's OK to allow the lion change and Allura becoming a paladin since the staff have been pretty frank about that, it's been a thing in the old series, it's done at the very beginning of Season 3, and it doesn't always stick.
I noticed that this page doesn't have a Five-Man Band entry, even though the original is one of the trope codifiers. I would like to add an entry for FMB, but I realized that the roles in this show don't match up exactly to the original.
Hunk is still The Big Guy, and Pidge is still The Smart Guy.
Shiro takes over as The Leader, while Keith becomes The Lancer.
Lance, despite his name, is not The Lancer. Because he seems to be a bit of a Butt-Monkey, I feel like he fits The Chick role best.
Opinions?
EDIT: Maybe I should wait until Season 2 premieres next week and see if that changes the party dynamics.
Edited by thekeyofe Hide / Show RepliesSo The Chick has to be female, and since Pidge is the only female, there's no The Chick and therefore no Five-Man Band. If she undergoes Chickification or if Allura joins the band as The Chick it may apply, but as of yet it does not.

No, The Chick has to be female. From the page itself: Yes, we understand that a male can fill this role, but this trope is a component of a Five-Man Band, which specifically uses women for this role. Examples of male characters acting in this way can be found in The Heart.
People using The Chick as a grab bag character is misuse and a damn good sign there is some shoehorning going on there.

The Chick has to be female, The Heart doesn't. I believe Five-Man Band allows for The Heart in place of The Chick nowadays.
It does not. From Five-Man Band: The Chick — (vocal effects, tambourine) A peacekeeping role to balance out the other members' aggression, bringing them to a nice or at least manageable medium. The Chick is often considered the heart of the group. This role is played by a woman or girl. Someone female. Otherwise, it is not a Five-Man Band.
Even if it did, going from "Butt-Monkey, therefore he's The Heart" would be a bit of a stretch.
Edited by Larkmarn Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. This iteration has Two Girls to a Team, so no, not a Five-Man Band, which is strictly four guys and a girl. Worth noting that the original team members only fit the trope after the Shiro analogue left the team.
The Two Girls to a Team was always contentious, but the FMB Rpair thread explicitly took away the "the chick has to be the ONLY woman" as long as the girls are still outnumbered (jury is still out on whether a gender inverted FMB counts). If you go to the FMB page you can see in the history that the "the chick is the only woman" bit was removed by a mod.

Is it just me, or is Lance appearing a little too weak, or being treated a little TOO much of a buttmonkey? I mean he is needing to be saved every two to three episodes.
- Fall of the Castle of Lions, he spent the first major fight of the Team Voltron passed out, this is a lesser example due to him saving....mustache guy (whose name escapes me) and him waking up from near death injuries to shoot big bad guy in the back.
- Taking Flight, this however has no excuse, not only does he get coned and chained to a tree, BUT HE LOSES HIS LION. He doesn't even get any role of getting him back, he spends the entire fight chained to a tree!!!
- Crystal Venom, Trapped in a cryo chamber, scared out of his mind, almost sucked into the vacuum of space. I know the other paladins had similar problems, the only real problem I have is that the other paladines solved their problems themselves, in every situation Lance needed to be saved....like always.
- All of this would be fine, if Lance was given SOME time to shine, the other paladins get truly badass moments under their belts, but the only one Lance has is offset by the fact he spent the last two episodes in a coma.
I am not saying I want him on par with Shiro, or for him to stop cracking jokes, but I would like him to start being portrayed as a competent member of team Voltron. (Personally I would like his skills to be on par with Keith, you know being his Blue Oni to his Red Oni, or rival.)
Hide / Show RepliesI think you might find this better put through the forums? The Discussion page is for page editing itself, if an entry is found to be out of place or out of date.
Well the point is more of a criticism, then me looking for a topic. In order me to justify putting this in the Review section I would have to do an evaluation on the entire team. And there is no way I can do that in 20 minutes
I removed this example from the page
because I really don't see this as being a broken aesop. Following the leader's commands doesn't mean it's breaking this message. Shiro often asks Pidge for analysis, and several times when a paladin has an idea (like the first time Keith or Hunk form their weapons) he listens to them. Keith's failed attempt to be leader mostly falls down to him failing to listen to or think of the team. The post says that the traumas of the other pilots don't matter and the black paladin's do, but it lists no examples for either of these, and I for one can't think of any. If this trope is going to be reinstated, it would need better clarity and to cite specific examples.
