This comic has very recently unearthed a trope that TVTropes has yet to codify: the unexpected communication with a major antagonist. It's a real trope. It has examples. The author named one. I can name another. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's opening chapter illustrates a connection between Harry and Voldemort, which is examined and even exploited in next book.

Huh. You may want to offer that up in YKTTW.

Is it just me, or did the comic kind of lost its way halfway through The New Hope? While still very funny and full of wit, the characters suddenly stopped being roleplayers and instead all turned into "actual" role-players. In the case of Jim it is understandable, since he is being influenced by Annie and all, but Pete off all people having in-universe conversations with others? Pete, the absolute munchkin? Corey also became a proficient roleplayer way too quickly and by The Empire Strikes Back he is doing as much acting as Annie of all people. In fact, everyone is doing too much acting and not enough actual gaming is the bottom line of the issue.

It just feels like the Comic Irregulars burned out and dropped the bulk of the RPG concepts, and while the comic is still far from bad, it still feels like a definite decline. Am I the only one who feels this?

I agree - it USED to revolve around the idea that a lot of things in the Star Wars universe make just as much - or sometimes even more - sense if they were Ass Pulls by RPG players, and along the way gave various commentary on RP Gs and/or advice to G Ms as well. But now the entire strip does virtually nothing but set up the commentary and advice. I felt it really jumped the shark with today's episode, which was a complete waste of a strip that literally did only one thing - set up a commentary that said "Sometimes it's hard to fit everyone's schedules together". That's it?

Darths & Droids and The Order of the Stick are both on their 890th strip. COINCIDENCE?! ... Yes.

Does anyone know what movie today's comic (A new scope) is referencing? I can't tell if I'm just not getting the reference or if is this one of those time where they're going to give us more details later. To be clear I'm wondering what Jim's campaign was.

Unless you mean A New Hope, the original Star Wars film, I'm not entirely sure.

I mean strip 775, where they're talking about Jim's campaign that we didn't see. Like that The Princess Bride campaign they did in between movies.

Ah. Yeah, there's not enough information to be sure. TBH, being a campaign run by Jim, I could see any of them having two medics just to be sure they didn't get themselves killed immediately. I think we might have to wait.

It's referencing Airplane, "And don't call me Shirley"/"And stop calling him Shirley!". Pete was Ted Stryker, the shell-shocked pilot, Sally was Dr. Rumack, The GM was Rex Kramer, and Annie was Elaine.

Should we add a Tear Jerker section? I'm not sure, but Jar Jar's imminent death seems to fit (especially since it is JAR JAR, pretty much the epitome of Rescued from the Scrappy Heap as far as I can tell). I don't know if they got past that part in terms of the panels (the destruction of "Naboo"). Did they, and should we?

EDIT: Never mind, it seems it will be happening now. Once we have the death confirmed, we can decide on it.

Way too many of the tropes here just lazily link to one of the panels in Darths & Droids rather than just writing a few sentences that are way easier to read than opening a new tab every time to see what the specific instance of that trope is.

well why don't you fix that then, make a few edits to explain the links? It's a wiki, so you can repair it easily.

Because cleaning up all of them would take an hour or so. And I also posted that so (hopefully) people would stop doing it if they added any further trope examples.

Basically the point is that we don't depend on the reader following an external link. Anyone writing any further trope examples should see How to Write an Example. I'll clean the current stuff up when I get the time to. :)

Everyone is limited in time. You noticed the problem, so you get first crack at fixing it.
