Hard to call Dante angst-ridden and brooding when he's actually quite positive and snarky. In fact, his attitude is arguably more colourful than old school Dante.
In fairness... I also felt that Dante in the first series was trying too hard to be cool. But this kinda takes it even further.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Is it me, or does having Demon AND Angel lineage smack of Mary Sue? As well as alienate us from New Dante significantly. Wasn't Classic Dante's connection to his humanity what made him relatable and inspiring? That no matter how powerful monsters are, it's the human spirit that makes us great?
I definitely agree with the OP. It really feels like they wanted to be "mature," in which mature means swearing every five seconds and littering the streets with hookers. I also agree with Jalapeno, though I don't have anything to add to his/her comment, so I won't try to add to it.
Tempers are a high at the moment on both the pro side and the anti side, so let's give the game some time out.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerAny plans to unlock the page soon? It's been almost a month now.
Edited by theenglishmanSeeing as someone cited this game as why Capcom should be considered a Fallen Creator on that discussion page today... I'm inclined to think that things haven't exactly cooled entirely.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.If you kept the page locked for a year it wouldn't quell the intense feelings people have for this game. You can put a nuclear reactor in a vacuum and it'll still burn.
How about at least getting rid of the grammar error I made on the last paragraph before the trope descriptions ("is was released") that I never got around to fixing before the page was locked?
Also people are just adding Dm C examples to the main Devil May Cry page now. It's not going to change anything.
While having DmC examples on the main DMC page might not change anything, it would cause confusion on those that aren't as knowledgeable of the whole... mess as others are.
Is 3 months enough time out for this game or did this become permanently locked?
It will be locked until the end of the world due to the rampant Broken Base, like Friendship is Magic. Unless everybody suddenly thought it was the best thing ever, it's like this for a lifetime.
"Pancakes. Oh, I blew it." - Joel Hodgson Nobody better lay a Butterfinger on my 3DS!Why are we spoiler-tagging the title of Vergil's Downfall as if it weren't prominently advertised on every "official" site about the game? In particular, it would be great if somebody with the power to edit could flip the tags so the actual spoilers on Trapped in Another World and Trailers Always Spoil are blocked out, instead of just the title of the DLC that everybody reading the page will already know the title of.
These are requested edits for the page, but they're Zero Context Examples and need to be beefed up some before being added.
- Fetus Terrible: Lilith's child is this in spades.
- Freudian Trio: Dante (Ego), Vergil (Superego), and Kat (Ego).
- Ship Tease: Dante and Kat, especially by the end.
I'll beef those up if you like:
Fetus Terrible: Played with by The Spawn of Mundus. It may be a hideous demonic abomination that it's mother ejects from her body to fight on her behalf, but it only fights in self-defence and never demonstrates evil traits other than it's hideous appearance.
Freudian Trio: Dante acts as pure id, motivated only by lust and revenge, never voicing or demonstrating concern for the outcome of his actions. Kat is a calming influence on him as a Super Ego, motivating him to restrain his selfish behaviour. Vergil meanwhile is the Ego of the equation, pushing Dante toward higher goals and ultimately being denied his control over Dante by Kat's intervention.
Ship Tease: Although never implicitly demonstrated, Kat and Dante's close friendship that materializes throughout the game is seen to have romantic undertones by the fanbase.
Could we get:
Protagonist-Centered Morality: Dante's only concern throughout the story lies with revenge, and the short-term effect of his actions is the human world being overrun with demons. He doesn't seem to mind much. Complacent Gaming Syndrome: The game has several dominant strategies as part of it's design, namely using Ophion Pull and Enemy Step to maintain endless aerial combos. Demon Dodge also provides such a massive bonus to damage output that it allows Dante to obliterate even the toughest enemies in moments.
When's the edit lock gonna be eased up? There's at least two tropes I feel like adding right now, and hopefully before I forget them.
Hide / Show RepliesPlease post the tropes you want to add here so the mods can edit the page.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. If I don't get around to doing it myself, I ask that this trope entry be added to the main page (or the YMMV page, whichever one is appropriate) when the lockdown passes:
- Everything Is Better With Spinning: The Aquila, one of the weapons acquired in-game, can be used to perform the Tornado attack in which Dante spins around really fast with blades in hand and damage any hapless mooks caught in his path. While this would be a good way to rack up some combo points fast, especially if you can catch multiple foes in the maelstrom, the Aquila doesn't dish out as much raw damage as your other melee weapons. Further, this attack can be interrupted by enemy attacks, and Dante is left vulnerable for a short period of time at the beginning when he charges up the attack, possibly pushing this into Awesome, but Impractical territory.
Addendum: Aerial Buy In functions in a similar way, with the added bonus of pulling most enemies into the air where they can be air-comboed to death with impunity.
Okay, I'm getting annoyed that someone keeps deleting all the negative backlash in the YMMV section. If it's YMMV, it shouldn't matter what people think since it's a reaction that you see. I don't like how this person is deleting it and making it seem like the Hate Dumb is in the wrong and they don't know what they're complaining about. It's like damage control.
Hide / Show RepliesThis, someone keeps deleting everything that points out the fanbase may have legitimate concerns, while keeping and rewriting anything that could be spun to make it seem like the fans are stupid and wrong and need to stop crucifying that poor Ninja Theory. It's fucking disgusting and seems eerily close to viral marketing at its worst.
I don't know why it happens. The same thing was going on in the Legend Of Korra YMMV (don't say anything negative about Mako or you're just a hater!). I think it's just some people who can't handle Ninja Theory getting any flak. I love Ninja Theory (Enslaved was awesome, and I've heard good things about Heavenly Sword), but this is not something you can defend.
I came across this video talking about the new Dante. I don't know if anyone's seen it, but it's pretty good.
So I tried to point out the flaws in Mako's character... then I was crucifiedTropes pages are not for Complaining About Shows You Dont Like. Justifying Edits are bad.
If you think of a YMMV trope that a work and its audience is an example of, add it. If you want to express your disappointment in a work, we've got forums for that instead: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/topics.php.
Edited by ashlayI personally love this game and even I find the deletions to be absolutely immature and pointless. Of course your opinion will differ, that gives you no right to decide others think along the same lines as you. Grow up.
Then go ahead and try to fix them as you see fit.
These pages and entries are there to illustrate a type of trope / audience reaction / trivia in a concise matter. A lot of those deleted entires were quite simply using the wrong entry or weren't properly explaining what made a particular event an example of that entry.
Is it just me, or was this entire page written by someone who hates this game?
Hide / Show RepliesIt...seems alright. It might be a little early for the In Name Only entry, but it otherwise sticks to the facts. The YMMV page is a little more hostile, but at least sticks to debatably relevant facts, rather than opinions.
Edited by illegalcheeseOkay then. Just checking anyways! Also, since I don't know a single person who likes the current pic of Dante (myself included), shouldn't we... change it or something? There are better, updated pics available.
Am I the only one who thinks that this game is trying too hard to be cool? I mean, continuity reboots are fine and all, and I'm not exactly excited about how they're revamping Dante, but I won't freak out about it... But making him younger, a smoker with an even harsher backstory than the original, ramping up the fanservice... Ugh. And if this wasn't enough proof, the demons are actually the government and they control the populace via consumerism... And their main opponent is a trustworthy, young billionaire electronics mogul, who spends his spare time leading a rebellion as a clear expy of the Anonymous? It's like they're saying "Woohoo, guys! We're anti consumerist, and we support rebelling against authority and stuff! And look at Dante, he's all dark, and brooding, and angst-ridden!"
