About the Star Fox section. Leon is canonically gay. And Falco is canonically not straight (but never clarified as gay vs. asexual). Wolf is a Word of Dante who practically no one in Japan thinks is straight, but if that's not enough, fine. Leon and Falco fit though.
Hide / Show Replies- Bioshock Infinite: While the game famously portrays the racist attitudes common of early 20th Century America there is one aspect of it to which this version of the trope applies: The portrayal of the Vox Populi aged poorly before The New '10s had even concluded. At the time, conventional wisdom suggested that radicalizing would lead to damaging outcomes regardless of which side was pushing it. However, with the rise of the alt-right and the growth of antifascist movements to counter them, comparing people who want to fight against institutionalized racism to the people pushing said racism is increasingly being seen as a false equivalence..
This was posted, but I see a number of problems with it.
A.) The game was released in 2013, so I'm not sure it's old enough to be Values Dissonance
B.) The blase attitude of "Antifa good, right wing bad" is pretty poorly written and portrays a group that has been convicted of numerous crimes, including violent ones.
I think it's written very poorly and ham-fistedly, and probably needs a round of edits.
One point about harvest Moon reads:
"Several games have your significant other or child wanting to bathe with you. While innocent and familial in Japan, it raises eyebrows in several other countries."
Just out of pure interest, in which country would that raise an eyebrow? Certainly not in (western) Europe.
And the more important question would be: Why for the love of everything holy would that raise anyone's eyebrow? It's your child for crying out loud. In what world is it strange to take a bath with ones own children? Because you see them naked?
I simply can't wrap my head around that ...
Edited by AugustusCaesar Hide / Show RepliesIt's generally considered strange in North America for family members to bathe together, unless it's a parent and a child who's too young to bathe themselves.
Can someone double check to see whether the Super Mario RPG example under Violation of Common Sense fits better here? While you're at it, what's the response in Japanese Folklore when the MacGuffin is handed over to the bad guys and The bad guys keep the hostage anyway?
Ketchum's corollary to Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced tactic is indistinguishable from blind luck.
From the Ace Attorney entry:
It's on record that the developers did not have any practical experience with the law. The entry has been up for some time now, so I'll ask if there's any credence to the games being intentional satire.
