I'm starting to see a lot of Shinso detractors lately, and discussion about him is much less universally positive, especially in fanfiction. Should we move him from Ensemble Dark Horse to Base-Breaking Character?

is how Quirkless are treated by people with Quirks a part of Fantastic Racism or Fantastic Ableism? I saw it as the latter since, to me, racism is more cosmetic while Ableism is more about abilities, and Quirkless means they lack superpowers.

I agree with you. The reason why it's listed under Fantastic Racism is because Fantastic Ableism is a much more recent trope, while Racism was previously used for any kind of discrimination against fictional groups.

The one issue I may take with that is the fact it seems to be a blanket "people with Quirks are better, even if they're fundamentally useless." Like, a lot of background characters have Quirks that seem completely worthless, or even a detriment (such as in the background of Deku's class at the beginning, the student who can stretch his neck comes to mind) yet they don't seem to be subject to bullying.

The guy with a plank of wood for a face doesn't seem to be more able than Deku, but he doesn't face the same discrimination as Deku.

IIRC Deku's mom even refers to her own Quirk as functionally worthless yet she doesn't seem to face discrimination. Or that Deku can't be a hero even though a fairly significant portion of Quirk-users Fight Like a Normal because they don't have Combat-oriented Quirks.

... mind you, still for a move to Fantastic Ableism. Just something that sticks in my craw.

The Five-Man Band trope was removed — the reason given is that the groups in the examples don't fit the trope's dynamics. I want to bring it to the general discussion because I disagree. Though I admit the villains section is ZCE and needs fleshing out.

Here's what was commented out:

  • Five-Man Band:
    • The group that goes off to rescue Bakugo during the Hideout Raid Arc fits all five requirements:
      • Midoriya is The Leader, of the "strategist mastermind" variation.
      • Todoroki is The Lancer, formerly The Rival who is just as invested in the rescue as Midoriya and Kirishima, but is very much aware the rescue plan is driven by their egos and may not work.
      • Kirishima is The Big Guy, the Hot-Blooded tough guy who is just as invested in the rescue operation as Midoriya, if not more.
      • Ida is The Smart Guy, on virtue of being the group's Only Sane Man who does not condone the rescue and works to maintain it within legal boundaries.
      • Yaoyorozu is The Chick, who (reluctantly) agrees with the rescue, but goes with the group mostly to watch over them.
    • The Villain's Alliance and Sensei:

Out of curiosity, why is this series indexed under Yu-Gi-Oh Fan Works? I'm not very familiar with it, admittedly, but it seems odd.

I... honestly have absolutely no idea. Maybe someone did it for a laugh and you're the first person to notice.

It's because of the way indexing works. There's a crossover fanfic between Yu-Gi-Oh and MHA, but since the whole series doesn't have a page, it indexes the first link on the top-level bullet point, which is this page. I'm not sure how to fix this.

Fixed. I put a closing index tag before the MHA link and a new opening one after.

I don't know if this is the right place to talk about the subject, but I'm really curious about proposing Complete Monster candidates from this manga. The way I see it, there are at least three.

1. All For One - easily the most reprehensible, diabolical character in the entire series. He psychologically torments people and has a superiority complex that rivals even the worst of narcissists. Anything that seems like a redeeming quality about him is eventually subverted and turns out to be nothing but a false front so that AFO can have his way. Also, the amount of evil and misery he's caused in his life vastly supersedes any other known villain in the series.

2. Muscular - a depraved sadist who kills for pleasure and doesn't see any issue with taunting a small child about the death of his parents, at his own hands, no less. He, too, is hugely unsympathetic, but I put him as second only to All For One.

3. Overhaul - a very wicked Evil Uncle who kills and remakes an innocent little girl in order to pursue a selfish ambition. He doesn't have much of a redeeming quality, either, since he's greatly disrespectful to the boss he allegedly swears loyalty to, and it's heavily implied he put him in a coma so that he could conduct his experiments uninhibited.

The right place is this forum thread.

I think that we should wait for All For One, since he's a pretty mysterious character with a lot of unknowns in his backstory. The manga is seemingly approaching its end, and maybe some kind of disqualifying detail will pop up soon.

Also, I have a bad memory so I don't remember 100% how accurate that is, but Overhaul's character page says that he's a Well-Intentioned Extremist who truly does care about his boss.

Muscular could qualify, though.

Even though I highly doubt any such disqualifying details will appear, I agree that it's best to wait for the end of the character's arc in the story.

On the other hand, Overhaul is also listed as a Hate Sink, and like I said, he's doing work his Boss explicitly told him not to behind his back, which isn't commensurate with any notion of respect or care.

What's certainly true is that all three of these characters have agency when it comes to their villainy.

Zuxtron (On A Trope Odyssey)
Mar 25th 2021 at 2:40:41 PM •••

Overhaul has already been discussed in the past.

The ultimate issue is Chisaki's care is still there, as warped as it is. He truly wishes to repay his boss for his kindness....poisoning him is nasty, but he feels that "okay, he disagrees with me now, but I'll fix him later, he'll see I'm right and things will be great."

DolphZ Since: Mar, 2019

Muscular could be proposed again since he has more onscreen crimes. All For One and Overhaul care for their little brother and boss, so unless it's proven false, they will remain a no. Nothing has shown All for One still doesn't love his brother and Overhaul only cares about finding his boss right now.

After everything All For One has done, still claiming that he actually loves his brother is beyond delusional.

DolphZ Since: Mar, 2019

No it isn't. He's done nothing to subvert his care for his brother. Overhaul put his boss in a coma yet was still disqualified for loving him, there's no way All For One will qualify unless he explicitly is stated to have killed his brother or something similar to that.

I've noticed that on several spots on this wiki, Endeavor is said to have raped his wife and Shoto is described as a Child by Rape.

Although this is a reasonable conclusion to arrive at due to his abusive tendencies, I don't think it was ever explicitly stated as being the case. For all we know, he acted like a nice husband up until he saw Shoto had the Quirk he was looking for, and only then did he start acting like a total ass.

Am I forgetting the part where they confirm that Endeavor is a rapist? Or does this fall under Common Knowledge and need to be cleaned up?

While Shoto mentions that Endeavor bought Rei's family over to marry her, it's not outright confirmed that Endeavor is a rapist. Since several reveals and implications make the assumption questionable (see here for details), I think it should be cleaned up. By the way, I would like to know where I can confirm that Endeavor once acted like a nice husband.

Agreed, stuff shown in the anime shouldn't be spoilers on the manga page as well. knowing that stuff should be a given (I mean otherwise you would probably be on the page for the anime)

Wait, there’s a page for the anime? I don’t think we need one — it’s a relatively really faithful adaptation, so the only things unique to it would be Adaptation Deviation — which the manga page can host just fine.

Question: Should Audience Surrogate be added here or in the page for the trope itself? I'm asking largely because Endevour's redemption arc is rather... divisive and from what I've read as well as comments I've read about the arc, I think an arguement can be made that there are at least two surrogates in the form of Endevour's other children.

  • Fuyumi: She seems to represent the side of the fandom that is willing to try and forgive him for what he's done. She does start up an intervention to at least get them to talk there problems out and is the most interested in bridging the gap.
  • Natsou: He seems to represent the side of the fandom that hate the whole Endeavor being redeemed idea. He has expressed a hatred for the fact that the abuse Endevour's inflicted upon his family has gone unnoticed by the world(a settement that his detractors seem to share. As him not fessing up to that and facing punishment is the equivalent of him having never gone through a redemption arc at all in their eyes). Then there's when be blows up at his father and leaving, viewing him as unable to change. This is something I've seen detractors comment on, as due to how abusive he was to his family, they feel that he either can't change or doesn't deserve the chance to do so.
I'd greatly appreciate any outside input that can be provided.

I don't think this is one of those times where the Intended Audience Reaction is very clear — we can't be sure that the author intended Fuyumi and Natsuo to be audience mouthpieces on Endeavor's redemption arc. Note how you've got to disclaim with words like "seems" — Examples Are Not Arguable, and it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to editing.

Should we make Illegals its own folder or should we make it a separate page, personally i would go with a page, but I'm not exactly sure how to write up the URL.

I am not sur that I should post it here. But would it be possible to re-arrange the different propositions in the WMG page for this manga under folders ? So it would be easier to follow them. Like : X is related to Y, Who is the traitor, Quirks theories, What is gonna happen in the future, Ships theories, etc ... Thank you

Possible? Yes completely.

That said it would be quite time consuming as you would have to make the folders then move each corresponding entry into the right folder. Also you would probably need Jossed and Confirmed folders.
