I feel like the Dynamite Fishing example has nothing to do with this trope and the "shockwave" mentioned isn't sonic, but rather a shockwave from the explosion.

Removed re: jet takeoff (at what distance?) vs. pig squeal:
  • And if you think that's just a measly two decibels, remember that decibels follow a logarithmic scale. That means those two little decibels make a big difference.
  • Human perception is logarithmic, so it makes little difference; and
  • Wikipedia lists the sound of a jet engine at the distance of 100 m as 110 to 140 dB. [1]
