I have a question or two regarding the Crowning Moment entries. There is both a 5D's part on the main Yu-Gi-Oh! Crowning Moment page and another one just for 5D's (accessed via the tab at the top of the page).
I was wondering whether the entries on one page needed to both united with the ones on the other page, and if so which page to which.
Also, if the entries should be on the main Yu-Gi-Oh! Crowning Moment page, is it possible to have the tab link there instead?
Hide / Show RepliesI dunno if its possible to have the Crowning Moment link to the general YGO tab. Maybe it can be redirected? For now I'll move the crowning entries from the main YGO crowning page to the 5D's only tab to keep things neat.
Out of curiosity, why do we now have an admin note to keep the picture to the right, which breaks the fluid formatting of the page? Is the site as a whole getting reformatted?
I know I'm not making myself any friends again here, but... Didn't we discuss the topic of Divine and the "Complete Monster" trope numerous times before and agreed that he is still a few steps short of being one?
Hide / Show RepliesI don't remember such a conversation, myself, but I'll check the archives.
Personally, I think Divine is a Complete Monster due to partially brainwashing Aki, killing Toby with experimentation, thus inadvertently driving Misty to death, planning to rule with an army of Psychic Duelists and planning to kill anyone else in his way to reclaim Aki for himself. I think there might some YMMV on it, but I think we can at least agree he's pretty horrible.
Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me."I don't remember it was ever confirmed that Divine brainwashed Aki... Or do you mean that one time when he released her true powers in episode 60?
However, the problem is that Divine's character is subject to a lot of Alternate Character Interpretation. Maybe he is a Complete Monster, or maybe he is a Well-Intentioned Extremist who wants to create a better world for psychic duelists.
You see, YMMV, a lot, and that's why we agreed back then that he is "a few steps short" of being a Complete Monster.
I think it was heavily implied with, along with Episode 60, that Divine had managed to play enough mind games with Aki that it constituted as at least a partial form of brainwashing (not to mention he had to have had that pput in at least sometime prior to the series). I don't see him as a Well-Intentioned Extremist, though that might be just because He directly created one Dark Signer (Carly) and indirectly created another (Misty). And, even if he might have been a Well-Intentioned Extremist to begin with being shown in the show, I think Episode 60 shows that he's at least pretty monstrous, as even before the show started, he was willing to test/torture a young boy until he died.
I agree that there's quite a bit of YMMV or not, and I'll edit the page real quick to reflect that difference until we come to a conclusion.
Edited by ReplisMonathin Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me."I think this just is the conclusion. People have different views on characters, that's that the YMMV trope is there for.
Imho, this is an acceptable compromise, let's just keep it that way.
Could I ask why is Kiryu, Crow and Team Satisfaction considered a Retcon? The gap between Kiryu getting arrested and the Jack/Yusei flashbacks had to have been around six months to a year. Kiryu was dead so it wouldn't make sense for him to have shown up or be mentioned since the other characters have moved on by that point. Same for Team Satisfaction. Crow was probably living the BAD area of Satellite, arrested (pretty likely since he gained several criminal markers after Team Satisfaction) or off doing his own thing. Kiryu's arrest actually explains Yusei's massive martyr complex and adds more depth to his character. Plus (in the case of Yusei only thinking about his betrayal to Kiryu), if somebody you idiolized came back to life wanting to kill you failed them, wouldn't that be something important on your mind?
Hide / Show RepliesA retcon does not require to contradict the flashbacks. It only requires the fact that it wasn't there or mentioned before and suddenly is. Please try to be objective about this.
So that would mean characters like Martha and Leo (Zola's son, not Rua's dub name) are consider retcons as well?
If anything, Crow, Kiryu and Team Satisfaction are Revisions since Team Satisfaction's split explains why were Yusei and Jack so distant according to the season one flashbacks.
Edited by StarryYou know what I mean. Please stop distracting from the topic.
If it was, why is it nowhere mentioned that Jack and Yusei growing apart has anything to do with Team Satisfaction, while it would have been a perfect reason? Obviously because it isn't the reason.
I don't see why this is played up so much anyway. Team Satisfaction is a Retcon. That is a fact, not an insult or anything negative.
How am I distracting from the topic?
It is heavily implied that Yusei and Jack grew apart because they had a bad falling out when Team Satisfaction. Hell, its shown that Jack was off in his Kingly angst throne while appearing distant from Yusei in at least one Team Satisfaction flashback.
It is not a fact, it is your opinion. A retcon as it states on its page is when a past event is inserted to serve a plot point or plot that was not intended. Not only was Yusei and Jack's falling out was due to Team Satisfaction's breakup, but the Dark Signer arc was planned at the beginning.
Edited by StarryI don't know what gives you this idea, since it is not at one single point implied that Yusei and Jack growing apart has a thing to do with anything about Team Satisfaction. It is however heavily implied that they grew apart because Jack couldn't cope with living the life in satelite (hence the emo-throne), while Yusei was ok with his friends around.
But for heaven's sake, since it seems there is no point in discussing this with you, have it your way.
First off, you're diverging from the topic and you're the one who told me I was going off topic. You didn't even bother to answer my first question.
I would be fine with sticking it under Revision honestly, but you originally had little reasoning when you originally listed the items under Retcon. Thus why I wanted to ask and defend my points
I told you my points. But you didn't want to accept them. You said, to quote you: "A retcon as it states on its page is when a past event is inserted to serve a plot point or plot that was not intended." And that's what Crow, Kiryu and Team Satisfaction are, since there is nothing that hints at their mere existence in the first arc, and when they are introduced have roles very important to the plot of the second arc.
But as I already said, you can have it your way if it's so important to you, I mean it. I don't care if the 5d's page has one trope more or less.
You don't have to throw a fit when you lose an argument, you know.
Edited by ReplisMonathin Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me."°sigh° Why won't you see that I'm honestly not out to insult or pick up a fight with anybody?
I was hoping you'd see my point, you don't, that's ok.

Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me." Hide / Show RepliesCould we please have only one version of names to go by in this article? Seeing dub and original Japanese names scattered all over the place looks messy. So I would prefer to go by the original Japanese names only (Since the majority of the people who edit this article are more familiar with the Japanese canon and that 4kids has yet to dub the third arc.
I'll make an edit later today in order to address this.
Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me."Is it possible to put a quotes page up for this series to list all Synchro chants? Just putting the idea out there.

I like to ask Troper Almightly about his fixing of the Five-Man Band section. Here is his version:
First off, explain how Aki qualifies as The Smart Guy when she fits none of the qualities listed on the page. Bruno and to a certain extent Yusei fits the trope better. And why the removal of Bruno?
I'm going to revert the edit, just in case this goes unnoticed.
