How come "Your Mileage May Very" is listed as an alt title? It doesn't redirect here (nor should it) and it doesn't have any content...

When a redirect is cut the alt-title still appears. I'm not sure if that's being worked on or not.

On cut list request: 4793 redlinks resulting. No thanks.

The acronym is used far, far more than the full phrase. Cutting it would be silly.

Definitely. I don't mind if it's actually justified, like "Your Mileage May Vary: Transformers 2 had a terrible critical reception but made a huge amount of money" (or whatever) but usually it's essentially just someone whining that someone else disagrees with them.

I think a better example of a good YMMV would be one where there's a definite line of reasoning why it may vary; for example, "Your Mileage May Vary: On Her Majestys Secret Service appeals to those who enjoy Bond as a serious spy series, not so much to those who enjoy the more out-there entries."

The previous example is a bad one; making a huge amount of money doesn't actually mean anyone thought it was a good movie. I'd say "you might like it or you might not" with no real reasoning either way is the worst way to use this trope.

Well, it's basically part of the website's jargon now. You get rid of it, tropers will still use it, they just won't link it.

Yes, I'm tired of seeing YMMV everywhere, anytime someone posts something the slightest bit controversial. We get it, people are different, they disagree sometimes, you don't have to inform us of this every single time.

yeah, well, you frequently get yelled at it you dont put it next to something with controversy.

So, why exactly is every YMMV-related trope having to be put on its own special page? Because EVERY trope is YMMV to some degree, thanks to stuff like Alternate Character Interpretation and so forth. I mean, some are more relative to opinion than others, given, but still... It just seems like it's more trouble than it's worth. Could someone link me to the Discussion on the matter? I'd appreciate it.

Ditto, I would like to see this discussion as well. Anyone?

... Well, anyone? I know that we can't be the ONLY ones who want to weigh in on this. After all, I'm a reasonable, open-minded guy. I just want to see the WHY. I mean, this change affects the whole Wiki, makes it more confusing for newcomers, switches everything around on long-readers, and might result in the eventual cut of beloved tropes.

Never mind, I'll do it myself.

There may be more relevant discussions. This one, however, is locked. Which is irritating. Oh well, I'm too tired to start a new thread up tonight... My main problem with this new policy is that many Subjective Tropes may be at the risk of becoming very, very isolated. They were made and became popular for a reason, after all, newcomers to the site need to be able to easily find them.

I'm pretty much in agreement here. Purging all subjective tropes is about as goofy as the need to point out that they're subjective in the first place, which should be obvious. As should the fact that opinions will differ concerning certain tropes, characters and works. This page is seemingly here to accommodate justifying edits. It shouldn't even have to be pointed out when "your mileage may vary" concerning the quality of a character or whether or not said character fits a particular trope. Editors are people, people have opinions, and opinions are invariably expressed, because this is the internet. Pointing out the subjectivity of a trope is basically just hanging a big neon sign over it asking for more natter. And getting rid of them altogether is just sort of...taking part of the fun out of this wiki.

"Remember, though, just because the opinions of people differ on something doesn't mean each option is equally valid (for example, Your Mileage May Vary as to whether the Holocaust happened, or whether the Jews were Asshole Victims)."

Anyone else thinks this seems a bit wesaely?

Regarding the redirect Your Milage May Vary, it's been cutlisted three times for being a misspelling. It is not a misspelling. It is a legitimate variant spelling, listed in both print and online dictionaries as such.

So much for my theory De gustibus non est disputandum meant "The bus is full of people with bad wind and no mistake."

Regarding the bar at the top, technically speaking, aren't all Tropes fanspeak phrases?

You guys do know that putting up an examples list is unnecessary. This part in the article even says so:

No examples, please. This descriptor applies to literally everything. No matter how universal the affection for something may seem, there is someone, somewhere who doesn't care for it. The only way to cover all the possible examples would be to write "Everything ever," so examples aren't necessary.
