wow, this trope description changed into something else entirely from the last time I saw it. Was that a repair shop fix?

I see "expected a no so strongly that the actual response isn't heard and the character just launches into the spiel they'd prepared for a no, only to have to do a double take when the real response finally catches up to them" show up in comedy a lot.

"Character expects a no and has thus prepared some counter-ploy to it such as talking very fast, so that they can pretend they heard "yes"" seems like a completely different trope. Actually, that seems kind of like "won't take no for an answer," doesn't it?
