Am I the only one who's noticed a new, stealth meme in Wikipedia? Go to a celebrity/known person (Obama, for example, being the first one I noticed it on) and look at the alt-text/rollover text for their portrait. Basically, if gives a complete, literal description of the picture. Spotted it in a few pages now.

Just thought it was odd.

It's actually policy, for the benefit of people with image-free browsers.

Is there a story behind that Oscar Wilde "quote?" Because right now I find it confusing and want to remove it.

I was going through the Internet Archive, and I found a paragraph that used to be on this page, and I think should have its information worked back in

Given Wikipedia's ... role as a central information source, you can probably gain more info on the "what" of (for example) Star Trek from it than you can from actually watching the show. And, that's nice. Here?

Here, you can get a glimmering of why the show is like that.

Well, the page is locked now.

I was planning on uploading the new version of the new logo (the image on the page is out of date), and if I get around to it can someone add it in?

Similarly, isn't the entry for Xenofiction actually an example of Humans Through Alien Eyes? I'd like to fix that.

The "Citation Needed" thing at Memetic Mutation looks a little... Off. Does anyone else see it? Or is it just me? >_<;

I do. I also know how to fix it.[citation needed]

Did you know that Wikipedia has a sense of humor? Neither did I up until just now. Check it out [1]

I feel we can squeeze many more tropes out this alone.

It should be noted that despite many of the pages being Not Safe For Work, that many parental control/web blocking software automatically allows every one of its pages.

Would it be cool to say Wikipedia is basically the Real Life page that has been Entry Pimped Beyond The Impossible?

I wanted to add the following entry:

Schmuck Bait: The article on Denno Shenshi Porygon includes a link to a clip of one of the seizure-inducing bits of the episode.

WARNING TO ALL TROPERS The Italian version of Wikipedia is currently down. This is a form of protest against the paragraph 29 in the Wiretrapping Bill. In layman terms: anyone who is offended by a web article - ANY web article, including wikis and blogs, as long as it says something against specifically that person - may order a rectification. Said rectification must be posted within a few days, without extra comments, basically refuting the previous article; if the owners of the site don't comply, they must pay an high fee. The problem is the motivation. There is no one verifying if the article was offensive or not, no judge to verify an eventual defamation, which is legally perseguible; I just need to send a mail to any site where my name is mentioned, and order those articles to be taken down. Strangely enough, in these days there are a lot of scandals regarding our current political class. If this codicil were to be made effective, any Italian web news source could be subjected to control and censorship. Therefore, until new order, it.wikipedia.org is currently out of order; any page automatically redirects to an official notice of the italian community. Thanks for your attention.

Time to put in a new trope (given the page's status a moderator will be the one to add it if and when it does get added):

  • Banned In Italy: Thankfully not yet (it's merely hidden in protest), but if the country's anti-defamation law gets passed...

The page now has a namespaced version here. Since this is locked and thus I can't redirect this page, can some moderator perhaps do it?
