Re Acrophobic Bird - many military flights operate a Hi-Lo-Hi fligth profile; where they fly under the radar to the strike target, then pop up to release munitions. A way to avoid SAM and AAA fire.

If using freefall bombs, they'd need to pop up to a release altitude of around 3000ft AGL, if using retarded kit or missiles, they could strike from lower...
