Why is this page NRLEP? The concept is not exactly controversial, nor were the examples given before (Dissolution of the Soviet Union? Does anyone believe that that was not a huge WHAM episode in modern history?).

Further, the reason given on the NRLEP page - Wham Episode: Real Life isn't scripted - is nothing more than opinion. An opinion that at least 1.5 billion Sunni Muslims, in addition to anyone who holds the philosophical standpoints of compatabilism or hard determinism on free will, disagree with.

Can I add the infamous "Mr. Hooper" episode of Sesame Street? If that doesn't qualify, then nothing does.

Preforming massive cleanup. Putting all the cut pages back on the subpages.

Can someone ban this Boris Pelkowski guy, please?

How on earth does removing spoilers make this site better? Why do people insist that browsing it should be as much of a fucking hazard as possible?

I completely agree. I checked this page only because I previously knew it as spoiler-safe (I wanted to know the name of a certain wham episode but not the contents) only to find they're now unmarked and it ruined the whole plot. Bullshit. Please re-add spoiler tags.

On the whole spoiler issue. Yeah, this is bollocks. Yet some of this should fall under It Was His Sled. I mean, who doesn't know by now that you-know-who transforms into you-know-what during the are-they-still-on-Namek saga?

Perhaps people who haven't seen Dragon Ball?

This is also why I don't believe most Death Tropes and Betrayal Tropes should have unmarked spoilers all the way through. Let Them Die Happy isn't exactly on a par with The Bad Guy Wins for spoiler tags being completely pointless.

...Trouble is, how do we get someone who believes in spoiler tags to wade through a page like Wham Episode and set things right? I'm certainly not up to it.

The page we're talking about here is Wham Episode. Just about every example on it is a spoiler by definition. I can think of no practical way to add spoiler tags to it without it becoming completely unreadable.

It already is completely unreadable - unreadable because it's a blooming minefield, which is worse than white space any day. Go ahead and change your spoiler settings if you can't muster the energy to highlight.

Besides we have a Spoiler Policy. And going on the internet is esentially spoiling yourself. If you don't want to spoil yourself on Tv Tropes, DON"T READ ANY EXAMPLES OR TROPES! This is probably best if it were one of the pages that shouldn't have spoiler taqs.

...I have my disagreements with the Spoiler Policy, Mario, but "don't read any examples or tropes" is not what it says.

If you want to make the page safer for people to read, write the examples more carefully. They don't need to summarise half the plot; they need only explain why a particular episode is a wham episode, which can often be done without spoiling anything.

Compare
  • In episode 3.17, John's new love interest, Mary, unmasks the Dread Lord Xoanon, and discovers he's actually John's favourite aunt.
  • In episode 3.17, the love interest unmasks the Big Bad, and discovers they are someone John knows very well, but would never suspect.

Both explain why 3.17 is a wham episode, but the first is much more spoilery, needlessly so. None of these extra details increase the wham factor, so they should all be omitted. Boil all the examples down to their essential details like this, and most of the spoilers will just disappear.

If you don't like our Spoiler Policy, don't just ignore it; argue it out on the relevant discussion pages. Win that debate, and you can riddle this page with spoiler tags to your hearts content, but until then it should remain tag free.

As for the other changes in my recent edit, examples that say, 'episode X, the whole thing,' are not good examples. Nor is gushing about how surprising it was, first person or otherwise.

Actually, Robert, when I mentioned the "don't abuse this blanket warning" clause to Fast Eddie, he said that if you really want something in the example you added unspoiled on a blanket page, you can go ahead and use the tags - but that it's on an individual example basis. Go ahead and ask him, if you'd like, but those tags you removed should go back.

But yes, graceful tiptoeing is the best option when you can get it. I'll try control-F-ing fandoms I know for that.

'An individual example basis' isn't carte blanche to use spoiler tags, it means only if they're really justified - i.e if they're still spoilers (eventually, the spoilerness does wear off), and if you can't explain why the episode is a wham episode without them.

You're all exaggerating how this page looks when spoilers are tagged. I've been to this page before people decided to give it a makeover, and it looked perfectly fine to me.

"eventually, the spoilerness does wear off"

Yeah that is completely wrong. Spoilers only become well known because people like you keep spoiling them. It is also not for you to decide when everybody knows everything about a particular work.

Fine to you isn't fine to everyone.

However, this has already been discussed over in the forum, and a tentative compromise reached. You might like to take a look, before reopening month dead arguments.

Shouldnt we add Death note? Im talking about the death of L halfway through the manga.
