I feel really dumb, but I recently read a story where this trope was subverted. It featured priestesses who needed to be virgins to keep their powers, supposedly, but it was later revealed that this was just to keep away men as a distraction. (I'm pretty sure that was the reason, or something similar)
Crazy with dreams of the future and knowledge of the past.
I notice that someone edited the entry in the Oglaf section about the Lapis Lazuli episode, changing "raped" to "seduced". The monks were clearly unwilling, terrified and devastated - One of them was crying. That's not seduction, that's rape. I was going to change it, but I figured it warrants discussion first.
