I just wish I understood why sex with a man you don't know and don't want for religious purposes or reasons of politics or vengeance is so damn empowering for women. Or for that matter why the religion of Avalon with its ritual sex, rigid gender roles, occasional human sacrifice and general authoritarianism is so superior to Christianity.

In most of the cases of the Beltane Fires, it isn't about the mortals, it's about celebrating the fertility of the land. The rites are equally empowering for both man and woman because you are channelling the God or Goddess into your body.

And the point is that neither religion is better than the other, and that the flaws are created by the priesthood, not the Gods.
