It's kind of disturbing enough that TV Tropes is giving advice on what to do when you're at gunpoint, but the fact that this description is giving two pieces of directly contradictory advice ("don't run away, it's better to move in and push the gun away. That said, running away is a pretty good idea") is just bizarre on every level.

This site is meant to describe tropes in works of fiction. I'm going to rework the description so that at least the first paragraph sticks to that brief before segueing into dangerously unqualified offers of self-defence advice.

It's not contradictory advice. It says within five yards, you've got a good chance at disarming them. Then it says sometimes, running away is better because past ten yards it's hard to hit anything with a handgun. It gives two different criteria for the two pieces of advice.
