A lot of the examples are just creatures that the reader/viewer only ever sees one of, but there's no suggestion that there aren't more of them. There's no reason to think that the space worm in Star Wars, for example, is the only one of its species. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it's worth the effort to prune such examples, or should we just leave them?
