Is it just me or does the main article have a completely different tone than the lolicon article? In that one it is very negative calling lolicons pedophiles, while this one seems to be positive. Wouldn't shotacons be pedophiles too if that is the case?

One would think this wiki would be beyond double standards...

Thirded. Just compared this to the Lolicon article..something very much needs to be added about this being pedophilia as well.

Article is locked, but would like to replace the parenthetical "(frequently shortened to shota)" with "(short for 'shota complex'), as the word originated from the compulsive shortening that the Japanese like to do with long, hard to say phrases. 'Shota' is a term for the underage male himself, while 'shotacon' is the fetish/social problem.

The entire page is gone now. Is that a mistake?
03:10:35 PM Jul 20th 2014
Probably not a mistake, Lolicon still exists.

Ask The Tropers cut it, you might still be able to find the discussion if you want to see the reason.

According to The Other Wiki (both the English and Japanese varieties), this Trope Namer is actually _Kaneda_ Shotaro (金田 正太郎), not Haneda. JFYI.

Can't shotacon by definition be considered pedophilia? It is specifically a fetish for prepubescent boys in often sexual situations. In many countries, it is illegal to possess cartoon images of "shotacon". Not trying to be "that person", but shouldn't at least the term "pedophilia" be brought up in the trope entry?

I agree absolutely, but am unsure how to word the issue.

but everyone already knows it's pedophilia? it's stated that the boys are 13 or younger. So what's the point saying "hey, it's pedophilia!"

In Japan, it's usually just called "Syota." Also, "Shounen ai" is a very outdated term in Japan that's been replaced by Boys Love, shortened (by the Japanese) to just BL. Yaoi is the explicit stuff.

I guess it happened a while ago now, but. . . what happened to the examples on this page anyway? I don't see why we can't at least list characters who are shotacons.

Even just listing examples was considered risky given how much this trope relates to child pornography. What with The Situation I doubt we'll get a reversed ruling on this.

The picture was still ok....

I don't like how this article portrays shotacon as if it was all about androgynous or feminine boys. I've seen several shota works that are basically underage bara.
02:00:48 PM Aug 18th 2010
Yeah, there's a bara shota niche as well. Write up whatever you want to add and ask Eddie or someone to insert it or to temporarily unlock the page.

Unless you have anything relevant to this page to discuss, I don't see how spamming links to your little blog counts as a discussion topic.
