OK, I'm no expert on most of this stuff, but a lot of entries seem to forget to mention how a creator wasn't quite as deservedly scorned as he was, only mentioning the scorn. This trope should be about creators who were blamed partially or wholly unjustly by fans, so entries that don't mention any mitigating factors should be either edited or removed.

Serious question? How can this trope be "No Real Life examples please" when it is about mentioning, ya know, real people, who are painted evil, destructive or just plain stupid by rampant fandoms?

That is a good question.

Anyone else think this should be a 'no examples, please' trope? I think it also needs a overhaul since it's a tad one-sided. Sometimes a single creator, or a few, are responsible for the elements fans dislike. It's one thing to say fans are over-reacting to something, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily wrong about the source. You can't really say, for instance, that Grant Morrison isn't responsible for the span of time where Jason Todd was a red-head, to pick an example.

Is this a subtrope of Misblamed?

Not officially, but it probably should be.

Regarding John K's entry in the Western Animation folder, I'm pretty sure that he did have quite a lot of control over the Adult Party Cartoon thing, and was just deflecting blame onto Spike TV.

Cut and pasted an example here.

Rie Tanaka (Lacus' seiyuu) only said that Lacus is a difficult role for her. She never said that Lacus is Morosawa's Mary Sue.

Isn't it interesting that a page that's essentially one long Justifying Edit screaming "Leave creators I like alooooone! They're awesooooome!" is still here and going strong, while pages like Small Name, Big Ego have been neutered?

Seeing as some of these people have gotten death threats for what was essentially editorial mandate, I think yes, this page is warranted.

How lucky that TV Tropes is here to fight the forces of evil. I hope the death threats have ceased with the creation of this very important page.

Cute, but if I recall correctly, Small Name, Big Ego was also a massive bloated nightmare of natter with justifications or elaborations with something added for every perceived little fandom slight, while this hasn't gotten out of hand yet.

  • Grant Morrison is widely despised by factions of traditionalist X-Men fandom and accused of everything from deliberately not leaving his successors with anything to write about to anti-Semitism.
    • Calling him a scapegoat creator implies he wasn't responsible for the stuff that he wrote.

Guys, if something doesn't apply, you remove it.

The repeated Take Thats to fans who point out how silly that is, though? That's all her.

Is that what causes all the epic hatred for Karen Traviss across this wiki, then? Did she hurt your feelings?
