Fireblood removed the entry:
* ''Film/FirstDay'': Like her character Hannah, Evie [=MacDonald is a transgender girl.=]
With the reason: "Adding a link and deleting another that was wrong."
As far as I can tell, the entry is correct: There is a short film/TV Series about a transgender girl, played by an actual trans girl.
Any thoughts?
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer Hide / Show RepliesThanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure if you meant it was too close to a ZCE or what.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerNo problem, just fixing an error.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.-Philip K. DickWhat are the limits on this trope? Should it be an actor with any queer identity playing a character with any queer identity? Or do the identities have to match?
My main reason for asking this is the Crying Game example, since suggesting a gay man would have insight into playing a trans woman carries massive Unfortunate Implications, to me at least.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer"Mostly averted with transgender people: because of the relatively few out trans actors, most of these roles are played by Attractive Bent-Gender cisgendered actors."
I'm afraid I must take issue with this (I'd have brought it up in TLP before this launched, but I haven't been as active there lately and I missed this one).
Not only is the matter of non-trans actors being cast to portray transgender characters a Berserk Button for most of the community (especially when it's a Crosscast Role), but the argument that there aren't enough trans actors to do so is considered an extremely weak and offensive argument (indeed, one of the main complaints about such practises is that it takes a role away from trans actors and actresses who frequently have trouble finding work).
Not to mention, the use of Attractive Bent-Gender in this is kind of offensive as well.
Edited by Bisected8 TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer Hide / Show RepliesI don't think that this is saying it's justified, just averted. And it's not wrong that there are relatively few trans actors, but it does make the fact they don't get trans roles all the more glaring.
It definitely should be mentioned rather than just glossed over.
EDIT: Actually, I take it back. I mentally changed a word there. I thought it said "Because out of the relatively few trans actors..." not "Because of the..." That's problematic. It's also incorrect grammatically, that should be a semi-colon (which is why I mentally added the word, the version I saw is at least grammatically correct).

Aversions are a very sensitive issue with transgender people; any cisgender actor playing a Cross-Cast Role for a trans character is likely to be criticised (as it conflates them, and by extension actual trans people, with crossdressing characters). Cisgender women playing trans women and cisgender men playing transmen tend to be better received (but may still be criticised for taking the role from the pool of out trans actorsnote ).
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerAdded in then. I'm sure Wiki Magic can tweak it if needs be.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerThis needs a new name, the q-slur has been reclaimed by some people but it is extremely offensive to others.
