The fact that it's "not a biological thing" is the point. The whole "no unexpected traits at all" thing is one of the defining, uh, traits of this trope.

Not sure the pic works. I don't know anything about the show the pic's from. But, I mean, the kid looks pretty much exactly like her/his/its mum, with the hair, antennae, and wings and all. Its clothes are from the father(?), which isn't a biological thing(kind of duh). Feel free to prove me wrong.
