Panel shows with celebrities are quite popular in Japan (and famously inane), should this be commented on here?

This article at one point said that the reason panel games are popular in the UK and not the US could be because there aren't any stand-up variety shows in the UK. That doesn't make sense, because there aren't any in the US, either. So I added two other arguments, which you can go see.
