Should be merged with Wham Episode— these two tropes are so similar that they are really just variant expressions of the same basic trope.

I would disagree with that. Wham episodes usually just reveal plot twists or have important or shocking events happen. Rarely do they introduce any kind of long-lasting change to the work. In the end, many works with Wham Episodes still adhere to Status Quo Is God. While the two tropes overlap often, they are most certainly not the same.
Considering the spoileriffic nature of this trope, I'm wondering if we might as well eliminate spoiler tags from this page, since if you're reading this page, you might as well brace yourself for the spoilers.
