I would rename this trope to New Super Power Plot. As is, the title sounds like a character design/progression trope, but the description and examples treat it as a story structure trope. Certainly they relate, but for instance Alice showing explicit psychic abilities at the end of Resident Evil: Apocalypse sounds like a "New Super Power", but doesn't seem to quite fall under this trope based on its description.
