Rapper Phonte made a whole series of tweets on this theme, complete with commentary. Definitely seems relevant; should we add in individual examples or just provide the link to the compilation?

I disagree about part of the "David Bowie" = "Doctor Who" discussion as this troper got INTO Doctor Who thanks to seeing the Peter Davison episodes on Public Television in the mid-80s; it did NOT seem as "effed up" as said. Doctor Five had the coolest of the intro themes in this troper's opinion.

S/he was likely referring more to the Sixth Doctor and early Seventh Doctor eras, I suppose the Fifth Doctor Era would be more equivalent to Let's Dance (especially The Five Doctors and Caves of Androzani).

Personally, it's Green Day to Simpsons comparison I don't get. While it sounds accurate, couldn't you also say the same thing about Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins or Barenaked Ladies (Of course, it was Green Day who appeared in The Movie)?
