So I'm a big fan of this manga and Negima, and I was thinking of picking up the Love Hina dvd set since ites pretty cheap now. I have not seen it before, but I hear it is very different from the manga, mostly by dropping fanservice elements in place of comedy. I think I'll be okay with this, but is it good comedy? I guess what I'm saying is; if this was an original series and not based on the manga, would it be recommended? Because I could probably bypass my feelings on the manga to enjoy the anime if need be.

It's indeed very different. Shinobu's introduction is different, Keitaro's artistic abilities are expanded on more, Naru's tsundereness is Flanderized, Keitaro's more of a spineless wimp, and Seta and Haruka's relationship isn't expanded on all that much. And that's just scratching the surface.

So is it worth watching? I mean, I know it won't be like the manga but is it entertaining in its own regard?

I watched a few episodes but couldn't really get into it, though I'm a big fan of the manga. I'd still buy it if it's that cheap.

If you haven't read manga, watching Anime first is fine.

If you did read manga then you can't go back to anime, seriously.

There are things that the anime does better than the manga and vice versa. In the anime Shinobus' introduction makes her crush on Keitaro make much more sense.

Early in the story it's easy to understand Narus reaction to Keitaro when you remember how they meet each other. It's no wonder the Hinata residents don't give him the benifit of the doubt.

Later in the manga Narus frequent punches seem to be motivated by frustration. She gets annoyed when Keitaro screws up somthing basic because she knows he can do better. The anime just has her lashing out at the slightest provocation.

Played some bad fan made game first, saw the anime, then the manga. Whether or not that’s how others got to Love Hina is besides the point, you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger fan than I am. If the anime was just like the manga we could have had a lot more in depth and longer story. Just to name one the Okinawa arc that the anime doesn’t have.

The anime’s Christmas special is annoying to me because of how I’ve be “Privileged” to see some people miss interpret Mutsumi’s naivety and innocence and contort it to suit their own excuses. Don't know why anybody would not like Mutsumi.

Wait a minute, what? Kanako yandere? I haven't seen the OV As, but manga!Kanako isn't the slightest yandere. I thought that meant the love interest acts sweet, but is actually very crazy and willing to either Murder The Hypotenuse and/or If I Can't Have You, neither of which Kanako does. I think what you're going for is Clingy Jealous Girl.

Indeed,Kanako would be the Clingy Jealous Girl.

I'm new at editing but regarding this article I've noticed quite a few examples are specific to characters.

Noting that this article does have a Character Sheet, shouldn't those examples specific to certain characters be moved there? There might be a few exceptions when it's fairly integral to the plot (eg, Naru as a Tsundere) but many of them could be ported over to the characters page.

Has anyone noticed that a lot of Love Hina Fanfics are usually drama fics or fics that deconstruct the tropes that are omnipresent in the anime? Ex Abuse Is Okay When It Is Female On Male, like Loss and Redemption or Repercussions for the first example or Absolution for the second.

Removed this:

Wallbanger: If you had to choose between two girls with the following traits, which would you choose? A. The girl who is hot, smart, but beats you for even looking at her funny. B. The girl who is hot, smart, a little ditsy, but is otherwsie a female version of you and doesn't mind random nudity. Now guess which one Keitaro picked. I'll give you a hint, it isn't the one any SANE male would choose.

for being obvious Shipping Wars fuel. Just because the editor preferred Mutsumi (in fact, I do so myself), doesn't mean Keitaro choosing Naru over her is a Wall Banger. He had multiple in-story reasons for doing so; also, always keep in mind the series is a love comedy and as such the abuse is Played For Laughs.

Whether it is in fact a Wallbanger comes down to ones personal opinions,We should put Wallbager up but a disclaimer on it, e.g. ( Part of the fan base... depending on ones personal opinions...) etc. I might go and do that.

Examples need details — we can't use an example which boils down to nothing but an external link. Please see How To Write An Example when moving this one back to Main.
