It seems like there's a lot of unclarity about Throw It In! vs this one. The distinction in this trope's description seems to be saying this one is about in-universe instances only, but the rest of the description doesn't seem to be about that. Other potential criteria seem to be:

  • Did the "part left in" literally contain a performer saying the part would be cut? (seems a bit narrower than what's implied elsewhere)
  • Was the part left in either out of laziness/sloppiness or to invoke the humor inherent in leaving it in out of laziness (this trope), OR was it left in intentionally due to a creator deciding that the unplanned part was better (Throw It In!)?
    • Note that the two points above might be in conflict with one another as in the Strangelove example, where the performer who acts as if the part will be cut is at odds with the director who intentionally decides to include the part. (On the other hand maybe the Strangelove example is just a bad one that is definitely not this trope, and possibly not even Throw It In! either, since the director DID plan to use those takes the whole time.)

The Rocky Horror example seems more like Throw it In than this.

This doesn't seem like this trope. I'm wondering whether to add it to Throw It In! instead.

  • There's a typical "hold me back" scene in the final episode of Series 5 of Skins. Nick goes to hold back Rich, but misses his arm, and Rich's actor laughs and steps back anyways. It doesn't make sense within the story, since Rich really wants to punch the guy - the editors must have just left it in.
