Upon further consideration and after reviewing a discussion thread about this issue I made a new page, Surprise Incest, for the trope this page was describing, and left this page as a master index for all incest tropes.

Removed a host of examples that aren't examples. The introduction makes clear that this is a trope where the people attracted to each other DON'T KNOW that they are related and are later SURPRISED by finding this out. I removed many examples in which there was no element of surprise, but rather were simple matters of incest occurring because society said it was OK or they wanted to.

Keeping this here until some form of factual link can be provided. Otherwise it's just an opinion cluttering up the "Real Life" entry (and isn't properly an example anyway):

  • However, recently Genetic Sexual Attraction has come under severe fire in the scientific community (and the general public). While some instances of people who are separated at birth end in sex, this phenomenon is believed to be either entirely coincidental (as the number of people who are reunited and DO NOT feel attraction to each other greatly outweigh the number of those that do) or attributed to subconscious narcissism of all things. It doesn't help that the scientist who coined the phrase (and who runs the Genetic Sexual Attraction website)is not taken seriously by her peers and that her many "real life cases" have since been proven to be trolls and of the lying Attention Whore variety.

If we're going to have natter about GSA, we should have more accurate natter pointing out that GSA is absolute BS. I think it's better to cut all the natter out.

Heinlein: I never got a feeling of incest from 'All You Zombies' (which is arguably one of the best time travel stories of all time), but as the article says, it's all over his later work.

'Number Of The Beast' has Hero and Hero's Step-Mom-In-Law, though there's also Hero's Wife's Father and Hero's Wife's Identical Twin From Another Dimension, and the Long family's in it as well, including Mama Maureen ...

Incidentally, has anyone else noticed that although there's lots of fathers and daughters, the only man who gets to his mother is Lazarus Long, who appears to be the person Heinlein thought of as himself?

ok, what about relationships along the lines of the symbolic daddy/boy relationship? Not an actual dad/son thing, but a dominant, caring older man and a younger, more submissive man. This troper is in such a relationship. It seems close to I Love You Vampire Son, but without the vampire dynamic
