Why would "We're normal now!" considered a blatant lie? While Miyako is certainly a weirdo and Sae to a lesser degree, the others are hardly weird.

The original quote was that the apartment was a gathering spot for weirdos from the Art Department.. and Miyako still counts, while Sae's statement there is overcompensating in front of the newbies. Yuuno has her moments, and Hiro has her own issues (specifically regarding her weight).

I was the one who added the quote, and Haesslich is pretty much spot-on. While none of them are weird in a "wrong" way, calling them normal is a bit of a stretch.

Maybe Blatant Lies isn't quite right though. Do we have another, milder trope? Maybe Suspiciously Specific Denial?

Works for me. They're still not 'normal', except for Nori.

Can anyone thought of an acceptable characterization trope to define Nori? Before I would use Hollywood Nerd in some of the potholes, but now I doubt whether that's appropriate...

Nothing comes to mind. She's very... NORMAL. Talented, but not overly so - a straight man for the weirdness. She does art, but she's also okay with her studies. She's basically the antithesis to the rest of the apartment - she's current and tech-savvy (more than the other girls), has normal hobbies and normal friends, doesn't have any weird quirks.

More like Straight Man And Wise Guy to the rest of the cast. Remember how she commented on "How does that fit in?" when Miyako asked when Nazuna first had green tea ice cream after the chain of 'when did you first get a love letter, when did you first share an ice cream with a guy' questions. Or maybe she's the tsukkomi half of the Boke And Tsukkomi Routine.

Haesslich, Straight Man And Wise Guy, like Boke And Tsukkomi Routine, involves two parties. I take that to mean Nori is the Straight Man to anybody else.

Which leads to another question: Yuno and Miyako didn't appear to be a single bit computer-literate. This is Truth In Television in Japan but will puzzle readers elsewhere— I don't know if that is Technology Marches On, Values Dissonance or something else? Or else it's hard to explain Nori's motif is a mouse.

Miyako I can understand, due to her being somewhat cash-short growing up... and she seems honestly surprised when Yuno mentioned her cell phone. Yuno has less of an excuse - and I think it's more that given the mobile culture, Japanese seem to see computer users more as... well, otaku-types (Lain was a classic example) while mobile tech like cell phones and feature phones/smartphones are considered normal due to their being portable and not needing a lot of room to use (even laptops tend to take up some space for typing).

Is there a trope for different technological paradigms due to culture?

Aluminium Christmas Trees? Although it's not particularly tech-related, it fits the general idea.

Perhaps. It's a cultural thing, sorta like how the Japanese were using cell phones for everything years ago (including buying stuff), and up until recently the most advanced phones were basically Black Berries as texting was a 'big thing' where it's basically old-hat anywhere else.

Really, this thing should be made into a Useful Note.

Not sure if it warrants a trivia page, or to be added to Shout Out, but I'm watching episode 9 or the original series now and I've caught a Behoimi on the bulletin board, Mesousa wandering the grounds, and Roboko in the pile of garbage so far. :) I'm sure there were earlier ones I missed. I'll be watching for others from now on. :)

I think I have added that a long time ago. Right now, add that to Shout Out.

I have transferred the tropes marked as YMMV to Hidamari Sketch, with two exceptions:
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: The existence of Word Of God already decreased its subjectivity.
  • Squick: This is one of the examples of the pre-Trope Decay use of this trope, as Hiro was literally squicking over a mouldy satsuma. This, hence, is not subjective at all.

Based on what I read on the forums, I cleared most of the YMMV prompts by the following:
  • In Universe tag was added to squick.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse was added back to YMMV as viewer opinions, despite Word Of God, is still YMMV.
  • All potholes to woobie, all in relation to Natusme and potholed to "poor girl," were removed. This is especially appropriate as she is already listed under woobie.

However, there's a use of Crowning Moment Of Funny under Gratuitous English that I'm not moving yet; probably somebody should make a CMOF subpage.

Do you think we should split a character sheet for this work? It's a bit long now.

I decided to make a character sheet anyway, given even GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class has one, there's no reason why Hidamari Sketch shouldn't.
