My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting Failure
A minor nitpick: according to http://www.thefreedictionary.com, electrocution is defined as 1. to kill with electricity, or 2. to execute (a condemned prisoner) by means of electricity. Basically, if you survive, it WASN'T electrocution - it was an electric shock.
Hide / Show RepliesVery true, but most things don't survive freezing either do they? (with the exception of a certain frogs and bugs) also one of the key points of this trope is that they probably should have died.
Edited by MCE My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting Failurefwiw, freezing doesn't mean "kill with cold"... this trope should probably be named "harmless shock"
Feel free to set that up as a redirect. But really, do you think "harmless shock" is a good trope name?
My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureNo, but be creative. "Harmless Voltage" is evocative. "Harmless High-Voltage Current" is more evocative, though slightly awkward. "Harmless Lightning Strike" is too specific, but perhaps the most evocative.
There are plenty of ways to avoid using a glaring example of Did Not Do The Research that makes TV Tropes look silly at best, willfully ignorant at worst. This one begs for a rename, not a redirect, pronto.
If that's how you feel, start a forum topic on the subject.
My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureThere have been three independent inquiries in the past few months over the fact that this title is technically inaccurate. Considering that Harmless Voltage is just as evocative (in my opinion moreso, since the term "voltage" implies a greater deal of shocking shenanigans than "electrocution", and this is a broad trope), I've renamed it.
See you in the discussion pages.Usually there is a forum discussion for this sort of thing, why not now?
You may say it is a straight forward case but just because some people have an issue with it doesn't mean all people reading it will. I do understand where your coming from, I'd be happy if the redirect is kept and I realize I don't own the article, I just would have apprenticed more of a discussion than "I don't like it, I'm changing it"
