Silly me, just noticed I pasted a wrong link in edit reason.
The query about removing Age of Empires is here

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe big Paradox games (Europa Universalis, Victoria, Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron) really shouldn't be on here. They're Grand Strategy, which while having some very basic similarity to 4X, are a different animal entirely.
Europa Universalis is probably the most similar to a 4X out of the above, but to label it as one is definitely a stretch. I'll leave them in for now, but they really shouldn't be on this list.
Edited by NordAmerikano Hide / Show RepliesIf you feel they belong in a different genre, then put 'em there. Maybe take a Grand Strategy genre page to YKTTW.
there are 2 entries for aurora, could somebody fix this?
Hide / Show RepliesI second this request.
And speaking of things that need fixing, "Fall From Heaven" is currently a sub-bullet of "Free Civ" when it should be under "Sid Meier's Civilization series".
Also, though i'm not 100% sure about this one: shouldn't the verb be pluralized in: "Age of Empires and Empire Earth *are* [examples of] 4X RTS"? It's been written "Ao E and EE is 4X" since added, in March 2011, but i still think it should be changed.
Note on the trope description — Civilization is credited as the "first" 4X game, but Reach for the Stars predated it by a good eight years. I would argue that CIV *popularized* the genre, it just wasn't the first electronic iteration of the concept.

Hmm... So any strategy game with Fog of War (X-Plore), ability to start new base (X-Pand), upgradable base (X-Ploit), and "wipe out the enemy" goal (X-Terminate) such as C&C would be 4X as well? I think we miss something here.
