This black troper bought and *loved* 'The Three Golliwogs' as a kid. It was probably edited because I would certainly have remembered any nigger references.

I've been wondering the same thing. In the copy I have (which was previously my father's, so probably bought in the seventies), the Golliwogs are called Wiggie, Waggie and Wollie, not the names given on the page. Can anyone verify if the names were changed?

Edit: 1969 edition.

1969 sounds a bit early for political correctness in the UK (Dr Who used the "N" word in 1966 after all), probably your best bet is contacting the Enid Blyton Society (the official fan group, and has access to the Blyton estate): http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/
