I'm confused about this trope. Is it meant to only refer to crippling someone because of the competition they represent, or is it any attempt to cripple someone's ability to do what they're best at, regardless of reason (from making an example of someone, to removing their ability to be a threat to them).
I mean, Aang took away Ozai's firebending because he was a dangerous psychopath and it was the only safe and effective alternative to killing him, Aang did not do it he was afraid that Ozai would beat him in Pro-bending or similar sport.
