This article completely ignores the distinction between pop up advertisements and the station's logo. Pop up advertisements show up along the bottom of the screen, stay briefly, and disappear. The station's logo is semi-opaque and stays in the corner of the screen for the duration of the broadcast.

Pop up ads have just recently become common, but stations have been placing their logos in the corner of broadcasts since forever.

When I was a kid, our PBS station would occasionally run donation drives to support the station. The problem was that they would completely cover over the airing television show, or they would squish the airing episode into the top corner of the screen and talk over it. Sometimes they would push the airing time for the episode back so you don't actually miss anything, but other times.. well, you weren't so lucky.
