Hi tropers, just thought I could add a few entries on the Witchblade, so I took the liberty! Funny how virtually no one here cared about the even more fanservice-y manga version...I mean, its creator started as a dedicated hentai manga artist, after all.

Removed the following example:
The reason why Dark Sun setting switched from frozen to scorched world — hot climate allowed much better cover art.
This is the sort of thing that needs a citation. If this is, in fact, true, then it should definitely go back in there, but given the distinctly Mesopotamian feel of Dark Sun and the precedent of post-apocalyptic deserts in fiction (Road Warrior, &c.), I doubt that the possibility of softcore porn is the only reason Dark Sun is in a desert.

A fun riff on this trope that may be useful at some point:

[Camera pans up female character who is sensibly attired aside from having no pants and wearing a bikini bottom.]

Mike Nelson imitating her voice:

"I need a warrior outfit, big boots, anything heavy you want on top, sure, but for practical reasons it's very important that my pubic area be nearly naked."

This seems kind of a weird one to have a 'no real life exmaples' rule. Is it really necessary?

Yes, unless in real life female soldiors have gone into battle wearing more revealing outfits than men (Got any examples, maybe it does apply to real life). I believe the "no real life examples" it is to stop descriptions of outfits that can be bought or whatever, because they're not designed for actual combat and so this trope doesn't apply, and do we really want people to go there?

Gladiators would be a real life example. The armor wasn't practical. It was designed to look cool and leave a lot of flesh exposed for crowd-pleasing bloodletting.

Can we get that restriction changed now?

Here's a real life example of Breast Plate (sort of). Body armor manufacturers are starting to make bulletproof vests and the like that are tailored to fit women.

A site devoted to images averting this trope: http://womenfighters.tumblr.com — Not sure how it would best be integrated, but seemed worth mentioning here.
