"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCould we make the quote about the Angelina Jolie Paradox suggested by Sagan in Scott Westerfeld's novel Afterworlds? That quote feels perfect
Why isn't this trivia? As far as I know, it's never been use by a creator to achieve a desired effect.
In The Avengers, Tony makes a Legolas reference when he picks up Clint.
Liv Tyler played Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk, and Arwen in The Lord of the Rings.
Does this count as a Celebrity Paradox? I don't know if it references the movies or the books. It's most likely the movies, but I didn't know if it would qualify.
So I tried to point out the flaws in Mako's character... then I was crucifiedSupernatural. *Especially* the season 6 episode, The French Mistake, where Sam and Dean are transported to a universe where they're the actors themselves. The actors are playing the characters who are in turn playing the actors in the "real world". The crew are all like "wtf is up with you two?"
On a related note: "Supernatural is filmed in front of a live studio audience" was the funniest opening ever. It ties in, at least thematically, to the whole 'Supernatural is a book series based on our lives' thread written (well, envisioned) by Chuck.
You either love it or hate it.
Very definitely a case of breaking the fourth wall, if the actor/crew/etc are mentioned.
I don't know when the main text was written, but is Hillary Duff really a good example of a "larger than life" celebrity anymore?
My theory to this trope across all media is as follows; as several multiverse crossover stories have shown, not all variants of the same people look the same, so my theory is that in the reality within which a given work is set the variants of the celebrities who appear within said work playing anything other than themselves in fact look like someone else, thus explaining how the characters do not recognize their characters as the celebrity in question.
