Given how it's an adaptation of a series where there is no "lead Pokemon" (even the Starter can be dropped (and often is) and the trainer is a Featureless Protagonist, Ash and Pikachu's long tenure in the Pokémon Anime could be an example; as of Gen 6, he's had 11 companions (9 of whom have Pokemon of their own) and for every League, Ash has (at least) a full team. However, when the next gen starts,note  it's just Ash and Pikachu again.
