Would it be a good idea to split this article into two separate ones, for the TV series and the Season 8 comics?

Why bother, it's the same continuity.

After reading the comic it seems that even though the continuity is canonically the same, the article might be due for a split in the two media.

YMMV, but the tone of the comic is very different from the show. It's less of a metaphor for growing up than a look at the widespread consequences of the world-shattering events of the Season 7 finale. Less subjectively: being transferred to another medium means it's subject to a bunch of different tropes while others become inapplicable. Comic Book Time for instance, is obviously not present in the television series, while the comic book characters have been locked at whatever age they were a year after the season 7 finale for several years now.

Although there is definitely an overlap between the people who read the comics and have seen the series, mixing the comic-specific tropes with the show's tropes can get rather confusing and spoilery. Before reading the comics, zerky personally had no idea where some of these tropes came from and whether they should be on the page at all because she could frankly never remember or even imagine them happening in the entire show's run. Reading about Dawn being a giant made zerky ponder whether a vandal had been running amok. In addition to this, people are constantly specifying on the main page that certain events/tropes happened or were present in the comic only.

The final kicker is the fact that there are things from the comics that downright contradict what was seen on TV.

Brought it up on forums. Agreement was soft split.

Seasons 6-7 also contradict stuff from Seasons 1-5. End o Season 5 should be the cut off point.

I'm new at editing and so I don't know if I can just add this. My Dad and I were talking and he pointed out that an old show Family Affairs had a character named Buffy, and a British butler named Giles. I'm pretty sure it's a shout out, but I have no evidence. It might just be a funny coincidence. Can it be added?

That'd go under Names The Same.

There oughta be a trope for the ridiculous barricades that get tossed together thoughout season one, and parts of season two. They are just... no help. Sometimes, they're piled up against the wrong side of the door as well, although I note that this appears to happen more in season two than in season one.

By Season Eight, is Buffy an example of The Crown? I think she is, and she seems to follow the trope descrption, but I wanna see what other tropers think.

"Cool Car: Played straight with Cordy's car (QUEEN C), Spike's chevy and Giles' convertible. Subverted by Giles' camaro and Joyce's "geekmobile"."

...huh? To my knowledge, Xander has a Chevy, Spike has a De Soto, and Giles has a [non-convertible] Citroën. Also, Angel's car is omitted entirely. An actual description each would be useful. I'd fix it myself, but without even being able to tell what cars are being referred to, and I don't trust my own judgement on what cars are "cool" or not.

I dont think we even need to list subversions. Giles' car is still listed under Midlife Crisis Car or whatever that trope is I believe. Figure out what Spike's car is, add in the car Xander borrowed in 'The Zeppo' and delete the subversion lines and I think it'll be fine.

Should Buffy have Cerebus Syndrome somewhere on the page? It's an example of how to do Cerebus Syndrome well.

Why is the page image from Season 1? What about that shot of all the surviving Scoobies at the end of Chosen?

Uber Geek recently started despoilerizing things by subdividing things by season. I think that's great (did something similar to Tear Jerkers) but have a question; what if a trope were to appear in multiple seasons, should it appear in each season folder?

Of course, this is for those tropes that aren't character or archetype tropes.

I'm currently just moving around tropes that are either most noteworth-ily seen in one season, do not have included examples from multiple seasons. Although this is one show that generally doesn't need the subdivisions [[spoilersoff]] and all, it is something that I think is a reasonable switch for TV Tropes all together. Especially when shows are still going on and with the increased population of viewers not watching the original broadcast but rather dvds upon the release.

Now what I'm wondering is this: say we divide things into seasons in general (a trend I approve of because not everyone is hip to every little thing and some people are late to the party) (and now that I look at it, the word "general" is really frickin weird), what about the division between "character tropes", "archetype tropes" and "general tropes"?

Shouldn't "archetype" and "general" be folded together and "character" be relegated to the character page?

Also, I don't think we should try and render Buffy spoilersoff. Buffy simply isn't Citizen Kane. It's a phenomenon and 9 of 10 tropers will be Whedonites, but the fact is that Tv Tropes is expanding far beyond the Buffy scene it started as and I don't think it's fair to take it for granted that every one of the people who come here are among the 15 million fans Buffy already has.

My point here is that we should acknowledge that Tv Tropes has grown beyond its original fanbase and we should stop thinking of it as a Citizen Kane type thing. I went ahead and organized the Moments of Awesome, Heartwarming, Tearjerk, funny, and nightmare into seasons because I've come to shows on Tv Tropes and inadvertantly found things spoiled just because I was on the first season of a three season show and there was no way to tell when a spoiler occurred. I hold out hope that there will be future Buffy fans.

The more popular something is, the more I think it should be foldered into separate seasons, because DV Ds, Netflix, and Hulu are all things now.

I apologize if I've been less than articulate; I'm a little drunk.

First: Done! Second: I don't think what I did was despoilerizing the show, actually quite the opposite. Now, you only get the spoilers from the season rather than from across the show. There are a few shows that I would love that this would happen too - [[Supernatural]] & How I Met Your Mother, but since I haven't watched either season 6, I don't want to spoil it myself while setting up the first 5 seasons. I'm planning on doing the same to Angel, Dollhouse, Avatar The Last Airbender - that one is going to be ridiculously difficult as the tropes have been divided by alphabet already, and Weeds.

That's disappointing. I hope they don't switch HIMYM back; in the mean time you have a few, nonspoilered hours to enjoy it divided by season.

You guys should change the picture to have more cast members in it, like the Angel page.

Removed the following:

  • Absolute Cleavage: On the first DVD of season 1, the menu opens with a seductive-looking Sarah Michelle Gellar crawling towards you wearing a low-cut top.

A tank top is not Absolute Cleavage. Absolute Cleavage is when the cleavage goes down past the breasts to the top of the belly; it isn't the sort of thing you see on the street. Or if you do, you live on a much more exciting street than I do.

Should tropes from the Angel and Faith series go on here, or the Angel page? It's been said both it and the Buffy comics are part of Season 9.

It's probably best to wait until the work of properly organizing these pages is complete.
