Since I don't really know how to edit pages, I'd just like to mention here:
Saint Seiya: In the Silver Saint Arc, the Saints do battle with Perseus Algol. His shield turns anyone who looks at it to stone. After two Saints are turned to stone, Dragon Shiryu destroys his own eyes in order to prevent his own petrification. He then defeats Perseus Algol and his comrades are restored. In the Manga, he stays blind, but in the Anime, his sight is eventually restored.
For anyone looking to edit this, for Star Wars Legends, consider Jedi Master Tahl: still able to use a lightsaber effectively and well even after being blinded.
